BMW and M Power Owners

I can't really tell where it's coming from, the whole front of the engine bay is drenched and I've got a nice puddle under the car. Think the expansion tank might have gone bang

Just shy of £500 for carbon splitters and spoiler from Teddy at ssdd motorsport (couldn't justify twice the price for oem). They are 1x1 carbon weave so match the roof which is what I was looking for and are good quality. If I make it down to the Southern meet you can take a look then.

Awesome thanks :) have heard horror stories about fitment of non OEM items so will be very curious to see.

Serves me right for showing of my clean car...coolant just emptied itself everywhere on the M20. Greeeattt!!!

Ah crap! Well it shouldn't be the water pump as that was replaced in April 2014 with a metal HEPU unit. If you decide to attempt a DIY then let me know and I'll drop round a tool that holds the fan clutch in place for it to be removed. If it was a rapid loss of all fluid then you could be right with expansion tank.

Had it towed to my local Indy ready for tomorrow. The RAC man said its the water pump. He filled up the coolant and it was leaking straight out again.

Have just joined the BMW ownership club having bought a E92 325i.

This has probably been asked before but what grade oil to people tend to use? It seems that LL04 or LL01 are fine along with 0W30 or 5W35 which makes for quite a lot of choice?

Not familiar with your engine but your handbook will state what grade oil to use. Get Castrol Edge in that grade from ECP and drink a cold one to celebrate :p

Good job on getting a petrol too!

Unfortunately the book says "BMW service can provide details of the oils currently approved by BMW"

It then says about how you can use "preferred oil grades" and lists LL01, LL01 FE or LLO4 with no mention of viscosity.

There is no mention of viscosity because you don't need to worry about that - all LL04 oils will be of a suitable viscosity.

Castrol Edge 0w30/5w30 will be fine.

Ah well both Castrol Edge with Titanium 0w-30 and 5w-30 are LL04, I'd imagine either would be fine.

Edit* That^ :p

You have sub £5k to spend, just buy a nice Focus - many around for this budget.

Why take on the faff of an old BMW without any of the BMW advantages to make up for it?

I know, my girlfriend just wants a 1 Series tho. Women are hard to reason with:D

Went to look at a few more at the weekend, i think we're going to around 6k now for the higher spec model BMW 1 SERIES 2.0 120i SE. Its an 04 rather than the 55 plate but the additional features make a difference to her

Tell me about it. For some reason shes just dead set on a BMW. Any cars you could suggest that i could put forward to her? i havent been able to convince her otherwise so far and have gone through the usual ones. Maybe im missing one?

£6k for an 11 year old hatchback because it says BMW on it?

Absolute madness.

No different to buying designer handbags and clothes though is it? 9 times out of 10 you can get a better quality non designer item for considerably less, but that doesn't stop people buying them. It's not where my money would go, but I can totally understand why people do it.

Around the £6k'ish budget, I'd probably pick up a VW Golf, you should be able to get a 2.0 TDI with Sav Nav and other toys for that sort of money.
