BMW and M Power Owners

Track days are not racing.

I'd get that double checked.

I would check BMW's (or the finance provider's) definition or racing. It may include track days.

BMW UK have already confirmed (in three previous cases that we know of) that they do not consider track days to be racing.

Don't the x35i engines have a habit of blowing up on track?

Mine's been on track twice and hasn't blown up so far. I've also met a guy with an M235i who's tracked it quite a few times and his hasn't blown up either. There's a guy on one of the other forums who regularly tracks his M135i and his hasn't blown up. They don't have a "habit" of blowing up, but we know of at least three of them that have as a result of oil starvation (I expect during long, fast corners).

Back in the E46 owners club now. Was running about on my motorbike but getting to cold & wet to be safe. So got myself a 2001 320i sport. 145k miles on it but running very nice, 6pot engines are so smooth. All for a winter bargain of £1100. Will try get some pics up when its not so dark.

Quick question, did the 2001 sport have staggered wheels? Its got the same size rubber on all round but the rears look more stretched than the fronts.

Thanks. Looks like the rears should be 245 rather than 225. Will this lead to any problems for now? They have lots of life left on them.

Steering is light and I occasionally get what feels like bump steer but I was putting this down to being an early model (light steering) and old.

lee1101 - My dad phoned me on Tuesday evening to say that he was just enthusiastically overtaken by yourself on the M20, nice to know the car is still being treated the same way :D

How do you find it on track?

How do you find it on track?

It's a good crack. You can feel its weight on tight & twisty technical tracks but it has so much torque available that it bolts out of corners like its arse is on fire. It's a little bit rolly, but doesn't feel unstable at all and with the MPSS tyres it has excellent lateral grip although with so much torque it's easy to break traction if you're heavy footed or the surface is damp. Brakes stop the car very well, but once they get hot start to go off a biot.

Cheers. Out of interest, what other cars have you had on track? And how much life are you getting out of the brakes when doing track work and what do BMW charge to replace? Or is it a case of get an independent to fit replacements because BMW won't find out?

Went for a night time drive on some country roads yesterday evening just to see the 'Adaptive headlights' and 'High beam assist' in action.

What a great feature! Couldn't see the car moving the lights around to not dazzle oncoming traffic, but I guess it's subtle movements? Could see the lights moving around the bends though and High beam assist was working great, turning on/off full beam automatically.

Does it do that, or does it just bend the light as you move the wheel into corners etc?

To enable that feature on mine, I need to press a button on the left stalk (though I'm not sure if this is because I have adaptive LED's). It splits the beams around cars in front etc.

It bends the light as you move the wheel.

My old Evo X was advertised as having 'cornering lights' but it literally just turned the side bulb on and off as you turned the wheel, wasn't anywhere near as good as this system.

The video shows how it's supposed to work for oncoming traffic:

Yeah, that's what I did.

To be fair they were winding country roads so it wasn't a dark long straight, which is probably why it seemed to be mainly changing the high beam on and off.

Pretty sure that it's because you have adaptive LED's. That button on my car turns on auto high beam.

Somebody decided to use the front drivers corner of my car as a back scratcher for their car earlier in the week. Fortunately it was witnessed and i was nearby so got details from the driver and have put it in the hands of an accident management company. Scratches to the bumper, parking sensors and slight damage to the headlight so estimated cost of repair is over £2,000 and 7-10 days from them dropping off the equivalent loan car.
