BMW and M Power Owners

I do think it is a bit harsh on the Xenon front, one of the main reasons to get Xenon headlights is to get rid of nasty halogen reflectors, this is not an issue with the F10/11 as it comes with projector headlights as standard he could add a quality after market HID kit and have Xenon headlights for around £100. In saying that I would automatically rule out any car without Xenons, I even managed to find the wife her old Zafira with Xenons.

One of the main benefits of the 4 pot 525D over the 530D is it doesn't suffer from the very annoying pause between your foot going down and the engine producing useful acceleration lower down the revs.

Still if a similar 535d was only 2.5k more I would have taken that instead you would probably cover most of that additional cost come resale time.

Can't say I've noticed a pause?!

In comfort mode the car (I guess) electronically adjusts the throttle response so you need to press it down a lot more for fast acceleration.

In sport mode throttle response is instant and the car accelerates instantly too.

You have that the wrong way round... the 4-pot has a greater pause than the 6-pot. The 6-pot has more usable low-rev torque.

As for buying new, surely they are going to be base level models with options like pro navigation etc adding quite significantly to the monthly cost.

Yours is a base level model though (with Pro Media Package) - so it's comparable. Since the LCI the standard spec now includes Navigation, full black panel display and Xenon's at no cost, which it didn't on the pre LCI. When this changed Pro Nav became optionable for just over a grand, to take into account the fact business navigation is standard.

As a result assuming you like to PCP your cars given the GFV's on a new one I'd be amazed if it was much if at all more expensive.

Please do the maths because I would imagine the dealer will transfer your deposit if you switch to a new factory order rather than pull out.

Lets do some back of an envelope calculations.

Through a broker now a 520d M Sport Auto with Pro Nav is £30500 with the more powerful revised engine which is frankly a match for the older 525d really.

Assume a GFV of say £14k - which is pessimistic - and 3200 quid for your Audi and we have a balance to finance of of about 13500 which once added to the interest cost must surely be similar per month to your current deal?

No not the wrong way round, go and drive one of each especially around town. The 6 pot may have more torque low down but your request for this and the torque being produced is slower compared to the 4 pot

No he doesn't - he is completely right. The 530d *does* have an annoying pause if you catch it outside of the boost threshold - which you often do. This effect is more noticeable in the 6 cylinder car than the 4 cylinder.

Put your foot down at 40mph in Normal mode. It doesn't instantly fire itself off towards the horizon.

535d pricing defies logic, they are thousands and thousands more than even an equivalent 530d. Dealers all seem to want £28k+ for nice spec 5 year old examples. It's bonkers.

I don't think the 535D is worth the extra as most of the extra power/torque means the traction control light is flashing a surprising amount of times, in the wet it is nearly impossible to make quick progress and not have it flashing. I expect the new 5 series will have the 535D as X-Drive only like the current 335D

As you say they do generally have a better spec which might make it worth going for one.

I've not actually noticed the better spec, infact there are a bizarre amount of almost zero spec 535d around.

True , some have poor specs a 535D near me has dropped 6k and has been for sale for almost 6 months as it doesn't have Pro Nav.

If you want the more rare options like HUD, adaptive drive and multi function cluster etc they are more likely to be on a 535D

The best I saw on bmw website was 36k otr, £450/ month on the 520d m sport. 450 deposit, 10k miles and 8.9p per mile.

Is the x30d that much different than the x35d/x40d?

I haven't driven an x30d, but I have driven the latest iterations of the x18d/x20d and x35d/x40d and found the 4-pot to be more laggy...

The x30d has a single turbo, the x35d/x40d has twin turbos and doesn't suffer from the same pause in power delivery.

Ah OK then, that explains it :)

Talk to the dealer... there can be lots of movement in that, even at a Franchise...

They may even have new stock and pre-reg stock available at a better discount, most franchises usually do with this type of car.

Have the chat, they might be keen to work with you on that, especially if their margin is higher on new - which it could well be. Otherwise turn-over figures and other incentives lead towards sales bonuses/commissions/etc... a higher price sale on the books, even with a lower margin, might help the sales guy reach his targets etc...

Worst case you come away with the same deal you started with...

Are you really telling me the sum total of research you did was to look at the stock offers on the bmw website!?!?!

Even this thread could and did tell you more than that!!
