Runflats do mitigate the chance of a blowout though.

Blowouts can still happen on runflats, you may have a better chance that the car won't abruptly lose control due to the stiffer sidewalls retaining the structure of the tyre but that is not complete mitigation.

If runflats were the be all and end all in terms of safety and reducing possible accidents/blowouts then you'd have to question why they haven't been made mandatory on all new production vehicles. The reality is probably as fox said that catastrophic deflation/blowouts are actually quite rare.

The loan car...want mine back already

Waitrose Wootton? I was parked in possibly that exact spot about 20 mins ago. :)

The garage are just doing the fronts. The rears look a doddle to change so I'll be doing them myself at the weekend :) fingers crossed it solves my problems!!

Nice one, same thing I'm planning to do to mine, rears are easy but the fronts are a bit trickier.

Yeah they are and I don't have a driveway to do the work and wouldn't fancy doing it in the road! I'll report back next week with an update if it fixed my problems :)

I think it's about time i responded in here about the 525D i was looking at a couple of weeks ago.

I originally posted in here about it not for approval, but because i liked it, then i got all the 'impulse purchase, get a 530d or a newer 520d etc etc from Fox and his sheep (there were a couple of exceptions).

I had put a £500 deposit on the 525D a week after i had looked at it and test driven it, i had been looking over, and i have to admit, i was a little put off after it turns out it has projector headlights rather than xenons, that said, xenons weren't on my 'must have' list either.

I went to the BMW dealer last Monday ready to cancel the order and sacrifice my deposit after the nae sayers on here. I went through the whole BMW AUC catalogue in the showroom looking at newer 520D M sports, looking at 530D M sports etc, but there was not one car that matched what I wanted, i even tested a 520D M sport (15 plate) on site to compare but the long and short of it was, the 525D was what i wanted, it was the perfect example for me, the interior i would choose if i was buying new, the pro nav was essential for me, but the standard kit you get on the 5 series is plenty anyway. I'm not bothered about a HUD, don't even know what adaptive suspension does, tbh, not bothered. not bothered about Harmon Kardon either, to me, the sound is fine (i don't listen to loud music). It's quick enough (0-62 in 7s), economical (57mpg). The interior is like a brand new car, not a crease in the leater, not a mark on it. I took it out for a drive again with an open mind, this was with the xenons in mind and the fact i could choose any other car on the AUC network within budget. Fact is, there were no others with that interior (the most important factor for me), within my monthly budget, offering the warranty and the service package on a car i have taken a liking to.

Anyway, i expressed my concern with the lack of xenons even though i decided this was the car i wanted, they obviously wouldn't replace them, but they offered me another £200 off, and to replace the H7's with some BMW 'upto 105% brighter' bulbs, in the end, i decided i was buyin the car for myself and my partner (who loves it too), not for you lot :p, so i signed on the dotted line and bought it. I wouldn't say it was impulsive, it was instinctive, it's everything I want and need in a package.

I've had the car for a week now, it's ****ed down every day since i bought it so i haven't had chance to enjoy it or even wash the immaculate bodywork yet. I've driven about 150 miles so far and i can honestly say i'm not dissapointed in any way, it's a much nicer drive than the current 520D, it's much smoother, if you didn't know it was 4 cylinders, you wouldn't be able to tell, it's more refined than my A6 2.7 was. The inside makes me smile everytime i get in, the pro nav looks great and voice control works pretty well. My only gripe is you can't remote open the boot without unlocking the car first. Literally, that's my only niggle.

So, anyway, there you go, if you don't like it, that's your problem, i love it :p

Couple of pics - not the best but it's not stopped raining :(

Just to disappoint Fox even more...

I'll get some better pics when the weather improves.

So the concerns raised (You hadn't realised it had no xenons) were enough to get you talking to the dealer again and secure an extra £200 of discount and you still call the people who commented 'sheep'. The doubt you had after that was enough to spook the dealer into dropping the price to save the sale. Sounds like the conversation was entirely worthwhile and benefited you? Had we all posted 'omg amazing!1111' you'd have picked it up as planned 200 quid worse off :p

Enjoy the car - it looks excellent and the colour is fantastic. That is one of the best photographs of Sophisto Grey II I've seen, the artificial light really shows the paint up nicely.

This is hugely annoying isn't it - it almost makes the remote boot thing pointless doesn't it. All new BMW's are like it, no idea why. My E39 let me flick the boot without unlocking the car.

I admit, i thought it had xenons (not projectors) so i took that as a bonus, when you brought hat to my attention, i took that as ammo and pleaded ignorance and told the dealer i thought it had xenons and was disappointed it hadn't. It wasn't a deal breaker in all honesty, though i did want to compare it to the newer 520D hence the test drive, mine is necer to drive, though i hasten to assume that it probably isn't as nice to drive as the 530D. But there are simply no 530D's in that exact colour combo in my price range in the AUC network (or there weren't at the time).

Even you have to admit there are member on these forums who take your word as gospel and preach your word without having a clue :D. I'm old enough to be able to make my own mind up about what i want, and am wise enough to nkow that sure, i could maybe have done better, but i kept going back to this car so this is what i wanted.

Sounds like the conversation was entirely worthwhile and benefited you. Perhaps not calling those who spent time offering advice and criticism which later enabled you to get a better deal 'sheep' might be in order.

Put like that, i guess you have a point.

I absolutely love everything about the colour combo, i've not had the pleasure of seeing it in the sun yet, but under that artificial light it does look stunning, and it's immaculate for a 2 1/2 year old car, not a mark on it.

I'm not the only one then! :p

My boot opens without unlocking the car...

(I just hold down the boot opening button for a second or two - does the F10/11 not work like that?)

I think it's related to the fact the boot fully opens when you click it (whereas it doesn't on a 1 Series).

Therefore the consequences of an accidental boot unlock trigger on an F10 is that your luggage is on-display with a huge 'LOOK!' advert in the form of an open boot, whereas on the 1 Series or the E39 or whatever it's just subtly uncatched.

nope :(

And it's amazing how much you realised you used it before getting a car that doesn't offer it.

Yep. Mine works exactly like that. I don't need to unlock the car before popping the boot with the remote.
