BMW and M Power Owners

Interesting point on the boot-release with/without unlocking the car. My old Z4's (2003) boot release did work without unlocking the car, but my coupe (2006) requires me to unlock the car before the boot release works.

I wonder when the switch over point was...

I'm sorry, i'll remove it to suit you. :p

I've not even had chance to wash the bloody thing yet!

Not because it suits him, but because it is both stupid and hideous, and has no right anywhere near that car.

Which I do like very much. I just couldn't spend that amount, on a luxury car, without xenons, personally. But if it's not a priority for you, then I hope you enjoy it very much.

I suspect that Fox has it right. The F10 boot opens all the way as soon as it is uncatched, whereas the F11 boot doesn't (unless you have power bootlid). My F20 is the same as the F11; it only uncatches but doesn't open without being lifted. Maybe BMW's rationale is as Fox suggests, an accidentally opened boot on an F20/F11 isn't obvious, but on an F10 is it.

My F11 has a powered bootlid, I thought they all had that to be honest!

So yeah, mine fully opens when you hold down the boot opening button.

Actually you can program the key to change the 'degree of opening' in the idrive...though I can't really are the point in half opening it.

Can't believe how much a PITA headlights can be.

Bought a new ballast off the bay yesterday after testing everything on the working side.

So, have to wait for this part to come then when my brother has sparetime / Weather permitting to help me take the bumper off to take the headlight off, drain the lake that is inside the headlight (Which is going to take ages) literally three little bolts holding this little metal box and put everything back together.

Amazing how one little thing is making me fall out of love with a car (Especially a Z4 3.0) and only had it since the end of June. :(

I think it's about time i responded in here about the 525D i was looking at a couple of weeks ago.

I originally posted in here about it not for approval, but because i liked it, then i got all the 'impulse purchase, get a 530d or a newer 520d etc etc from Fox and his sheep (there were a couple of exceptions).

I had put a £500 deposit on the 525D a week after i had looked at it and test driven it, i had been looking over, and i have to admit, i was a little put off after it turns out it has projector headlights rather than xenons, that said, xenons weren't on my 'must have' list either.

I went to the BMW dealer last Monday ready to cancel the order and sacrifice my deposit after the nae sayers on here. I went through the whole BMW AUC catalogue in the showroom looking at newer 520D M sports, looking at 530D M sports etc, but there was not one car that matched what I wanted, i even tested a 520D M sport (15 plate) on site to compare but the long and short of it was, the 525D was what i wanted, it was the perfect example for me, the interior i would choose if i was buying new, the pro nav was essential for me, but the standard kit you get on the 5 series is plenty anyway. I'm not bothered about a HUD, don't even know what adaptive suspension does, tbh, not bothered. not bothered about Harmon Kardon either, to me, the sound is fine (i don't listen to loud music). It's quick enough (0-62 in 7s), economical (57mpg). The interior is like a brand new car, not a crease in the leater, not a mark on it. I took it out for a drive again with an open mind, this was with the xenons in mind and the fact i could choose any other car on the AUC network within budget. Fact is, there were no others with that interior (the most important factor for me), within my monthly budget, offering the warranty and the service package on a car i have taken a liking to.

Anyway, i expressed my concern with the lack of xenons even though i decided this was the car i wanted, they obviously wouldn't replace them, but they offered me another £200 off, and to replace the H7's with some BMW 'upto 105% brighter' bulbs, in the end, i decided i was buyin the car for myself and my partner (who loves it too), not for you lot :p, so i signed on the dotted line and bought it. I wouldn't say it was impulsive, it was instinctive, it's everything I want and need in a package.

I've had the car for a week now, it's ****ed down every day since i bought it so i haven't had chance to enjoy it or even wash the immaculate bodywork yet. I've driven about 150 miles so far and i can honestly say i'm not dissapointed in any way, it's a much nicer drive than the current 520D, it's much smoother, if you didn't know it was 4 cylinders, you wouldn't be able to tell, it's more refined than my A6 2.7 was. The inside makes me smile everytime i get in, the pro nav looks great and voice control works pretty well. My only gripe is you can't remote open the boot without unlocking the car first. Literally, that's my only niggle.

So, anyway, there you go, if you don't like it, that's your problem, i love it :p

Couple of pics - not the best but it's not stopped raining :(

I'll get some better pics when the weather improves.

Since you've got projectors you could buy a decent Xenon HID kit and retrofit then if you're that fussed about not having them.

I'll get some better pics when the weather improves.

At the end of the day the only thing that matters when buying a car for yourself is what you think of the car.

I'm happy to hear that you love the new car and are enjoying it.

It's important to always keep an open mind on other people's opinions as Fox is the most knowledgeable person about BMW I have seen on this forum.

He wouldn't be the person to give bad advice and genuinely has a good reason for something when he says it.

Would love to see more pics of the car especially the interior as that was the main selling point for you.

It looks like the interior is Oyster and Black which is absolutely the best possible interior combination in an F10 (Though bundled with silver trim always makes the contrast between black and oyster look a bit weird, with wood its sublime).

My dad just picked up an f10 with oyster and a very dark wood (not sure which as I've not actually seen it in the flesh yet) and it looks lovely from pics.

It's only a 520d and an SE but still a throughly handsome looking car, not a bad compliment to the little z4

I looked into that option and it was offered when i bought the car too, but apparently it can cause issues with other electronics in the car, tbh, i have driven the car at night and the lights are fine with the 'expensive' bulbs BMW put in for me.

I can't compare to the originals though as i never got to see them at night.

I took a couple of pics earlier. Mine does have the silver trim but i think it looks great, really light and airy and a fantastic place to be.

I imagine with the dark wood trim it would look good too.

I didn't even know BMW did upgraded bulbs! I bet they are about £80 to buy, even though you can buy better ones from Philips for £18 (but I know you didn't even pay for them so meh).

Really nice car though. That interior is beautiful.

EDIT: Just checked and I wasn't too far out! £50 for a pair of bulbs that are only +105%. The Xtreme Vision Plus's are +130% for a quarter of the price. Love BMW prices :D
