BMW and M Power Owners

Just make sure the neighbours aren't about else you'll get a shout out "You've left your lights on!!!" :p

BMW warranty question for you veteran owners - if I'm thinking about buying a car that unfortunately has just come out of warranty, would BMW allow me to buy their warranty? Or does coverage have to be continuous?

As long as the car has full BMW Service history and less than 60k miles then I think I am right in saying you can still take out their highest level of insured cover. (Comprehensive Warranty)

You can also still buy cover over 60k but it'll be driveline or named component, which is arguably of limited value on most models

You can buy the full range of products up to 100,000 miles but the price increases by about 50% after 60k miles. After 100k miles, only driveline cover is available on a new policy.

Thanks all, much appreciated - never had a BMW before. It's only done 30k and is 1 month outside manufacturer warranty so I guess I would be ok (if I did get the car) :)

Any views on CIC vs NBT nav? On the 1er it changed between 2012 and 2013, is the 3d view that much better or just a marginal improvement? Or - what premium would you be willing to pay for it?

Found a lovely 335i with pretty much my ideal spec (above it really). Alas, it's just peaked over BMW's 60k warranty marker. So irritating! Still tempted mind you...

E90 335i's seemed to have come down in price quite a bit lately.

Found a few decent looking examples 07 onwards, some with iDrive less than 100k mileage, manuals for less than £9k, hovering around the 7.5-8.5k price range in fact.

Nice to see these come down finally.

Yeah, the 07's have definitely come down. Sadly anything post-08 is still pretty expensive for an E90. I'm possibly too paranoid about owning an N54 without a warranty though, especially as my 'bombproof' N52 has still been to see BMW a few times to sort niggling issues.

It is better but only incrementally. The menu structure remains the same, its just a bit quicker and slightly nicer looking with fancier animations.

I would always pick an NBT car over a CIC one for similar money but it's not worth paying loads more for.

Cracking bit of kit if they hit 6-7k price range, great handling car capable of 0-60 around 5s.

As it stands you're taking a big chance at the sort of price range though - either near end of life miles and or seriously questionable history/condition.

Even at closer to £10k I'd be seriously nervous about owning one without either warranty coverage or a pot of cash just in case - then there's the fact you're paying decent money for something approaching ten years old (albeit they're seriously rapid)

Agreed totally. As I'm now fairly set on tracking a 335 down as my next car I've been keeping an good eye out, and I wouldn't personally be taking a gamble on a sub-10k example.

12-13k seems to be a good range to aim for, although some of the newer/lower milage/well specced cars are holding value at around 15k. That's definitely a lot of cash for a car approaching 10 years, but for me the 335 represents a great M3 alternative; far cheaper to run, more practical (in e90/91 form anyway) and with 90% of the on-road experience (I won't be tracking it). Better to invest in a good example and pay for BM's warranty than constantly chase issues on a bottom of market example.
