BMW and M Power Owners

If you think the new 3 series is bleak, I'll be interested to hear your view on the new 1 ;)

I had a 65 plate 116 courtesy car the other day whilst my bumper was being done. Rather unpleasant place to be.

I found the 2nd gear to be a right PITA when changing up/down. The interior just felt cheap, tacky and plasticky:eek:.

I could not get used to the stop start mode of the car. About to pull away whilst in traffic half way up Blue Bell Hill and the car halts to a stop!! WTF...

I felt like Dorothy at one point as the gear stick felt Like a plastic wand. At one stage I thought to myself I was going to break it when I was shifting.

The interior was not pleasent at all. I was so relieved when BMW told me my car was ready for collection :D. I had already decided that if need be, I would drive the toyota to work the following day and leave the courtesy car on the drive.

Will report back on the new 1 series. Any known issues one should be aware off with the 1 series? Good and bad feedback most welcome. Mrs Cyz will be test driving an approved used 1.

If you hated the 3 Series that much why even test drive a 1 Series? It's the same but smaller really. The interior is slightly worse than the 3 Series.

There is nothing in a 1 Series that would change anything you hated about that 3 series.

So I have found a car in near ideal spec with just one issue, the mileage is 60,184 :( . What difference will this make to the BMW extended warranty price for a 530d?

As I mentioned I am not test driving myself my wife is on Saturday. The reason the test drive is a 1 series is due to the height of my wife being 5' We did look at the older 1 series but she did not feel comfortable as the car looked "big" As soon as she saw the new 1 series she liked it, and did not look "big" which made her feel more comfortable. I have not looked at the dimensions to compare as of yet.

At the moment it is more of a test drive as to "I/ we are going to buy this car" All options are on the table.

Appreciate your advice to the interior comparisons. Apart from the interiors any advice to mechanical/ engine issues of the new 1 series to be aware of?

Feel your pain, although the car "looking big" isn't relevant to the height of the woman I've found, my girlfriend is 5'8" and still won't happily drive my E46... :(

I do agree with you to a persons height. I do understand that if a person does not feel comfortable driving a car, especially due to the perceived size of the vehicle their driving experience is negatitve, and not feeling safe and comfortable whilst in control of a vehicle has a huge negative psychological effect on the driver.

Absolutely the size fo the person bears no connection to their comfort at a size of a vehicle. My wife is 5ft on the nose, and she loved driving my Range Rover. She REALLY likes the 5 series too, and is very happy in the Alhambra.

But if she wasn't comfortable, there would be no point in trying to force it upon her. Why inflict such unnecessary psychological strain?

Yeah, that's exactly it, no sound whatsoever.

So if I replace one of the middle ones with the outside one, all of them will work? What's the logic there, I thought they were identical?

Correct! No idea why it makes it work but it definitely will.

I must admit that I'm not greatly confident jumping in and out of cars that I'm not familiar with (but ultimately this has nothing do with the size, getting used to the clutch bite or characteristics is what bothers me for the first few minutes).

It's a shame because I fancy a new car but don't want to get rid of my E46, but the O/H won't drive it as her daily. I'm not exactly keen on selling the E46 and keeping the Megane :(

Cheers pal, will give this a shot next weekend and let you know how it fares! :D

Time to buy some knee pads. What I'd give for a garage ramp! :(

In other news, sold my part worn Dunlop tyres for £40... Happy days.

Thanks to all who suggested Redish on here, just booked in my car for an oil service tomorrow there and I am filled with way more confidence than I was talking about an M service so generically with the local BMW main dealer, its half the price as well.

Indeed, the 1 series is now effectively a 3 series without a boot.

I do think the 1 series interior can be significantly improved with options though, bringing it in line with the 4 series interior - which is inferior to the 5 and 6 series, but not bad.

If you compare the 1 series interior to other cars in the same sort of bracket, I actually found it to be among the best.

Well no, it just has more kit. The interior is the same, it's just got more stuff fitted to it which you can do with any car in the range.

That's what I was getting at. You can make a 1 series look almost the same inside, but that gets expensive.
