BMW and M Power Owners

420i M-Sport from Budget, 640d M-Sport from Thrifty, M4 from Thrifty, 740d from Thrifty, 435i from Thrifty, 320d from Sixt UK... all had it. Don't know if the option is standard or not in the 640/740.

It's standard on the 6 and above and common enough on the M4 but I am amazed you've found it so often on 3's and 4's. So amazed I have to ask if you are confusing it for something else... we are talking about the actual dash in leather not the centre console and door cards?

It's almost a £1000 option and has no effect on residuals so I can think of no reason why it would be specified as an additional option on rental 320d's. They are mostly BMW UK registered cars that turn up as approved used later on - if they were being ordered with a leather dash in sufficient volume for you to continually receive them where are they on the AUC site? :p

When I booked a 520, they gave me an E-Class and I couldn't stand the thing... that horrible to be a driver of, you have to assume the old man driving style and have nowhere to rest your elbows... comfy enough for the passengers though.

Agree completely, I am not a fan of the E Class interior especially compared with the 5 Series. I suspect though that the new E Class, due next year, will be very nice.

On paper a 3 Series is ideal but the interior just doesn't feel luxurious or special and it's a real shame.
In the same way a 5 Series interior doesn't feel as luxurious as a Bentley CGT. There is a reason why the 5 costs more than a 3 :p

But the E46 3 Series kinda did have quite a lot of the E39 'magic' (Wrong word but you get my point) in its interior. It felt like a small E39 and as a result even today an E46 interior looks very smart still, allowing for the fact it's 17 years old.

Even the E90 was somewhat different to the 1 Series.

In many configurations btw a 5 Series doesn't cost more than a 3 Series. Not that I don't understand your point but it's a bizarre oddity of BMW pricing I thought it was worth pointing out. For quite some time when the F30 launched a 520d with leather was actually cheaper than a 320d with leather. Bizarre, but it was because of the standard equipment improvements on the 5.

Outside of the OcUK Motors Forum bubble the interior of the 3 series isn't seen as low rent. Most reviews i've read online place it well against it's rivals.

What do they know :p

I found scratchy hollow feeling plastics in the 6 series somewhat concerning for starters! It seems genuinely high quality plastics and fit and finish inside a car isn't all too common in most of BMW's popular model range these days. At least not to the same level it once used to be,

As far as I'm concerned the interior of my M4 is leagues ahead of my old E92 M3 so I'm not particularly fussed, seats are much better, and the whole cabin feels great.

Anyway, that all blurs into the background when I put my foot down :p

BMW interior is better than Merc C Class interior... stop spouting this crap.

This gen C Class is an improvement over the last C... sure... but it's so tacky it's just gross and yes, the display is a heck of a lot worse.

I would have a 1-series over a c-class any day of the week.

The c-class wrap around leather is quite nice... but the whole centre console, right back to behind your elbow and especially the badly stuck on ipad is absolutely vile... but, I would still have one over a VW or similar... I just think that compared to a 3/4 series, it's horrid.

I have to entirely agree with your views on the C-Class. It is truly horrible and tacky. Sure, it takes them away from the "old man" segment, but puts it firmly in the 17 year old "Max Power" segment (is Max Power still a thing?).

Other than that, I agree with Fox on the BMW interiors though. I would like to swap my 5 series for something more fun. The M3/M4 is just too much money for that interior, coming from a 5 series. The 340i would get a shout, but, again, that interior just feels like too much of a downgrade.

It is absolutely fine in the 1 series. Best in class I don't doubt. It probably is best, or close to best in class on the 3 series too. But in relation to other BMW models, it just doesn't do the car the justice it deserves.

Personal opinion of course. But it is a big part of the reason I am not currently waiting on a 340i Touring. That said, I'm not waiting on an S4 either, so....

I really don't see the big deal... the interior of all the 1/2/3/4/5/6/7 are incredibly similar.

Similar yes, but very much not the same.

I had a good mooch around the current range the other day and tbh the OC/UK motors perceptions made sense.

The 1 series was frankly no better than a current Focus, same could be said of the 2 series the 3 & 4 seemed slightly better to me but the 5 6 & 7 were all together in a different league, the newly launched 7 especially, I was very impressed with its interior and the build quality.

I'd not had a good look round my local dealers (Knights BMW Stoke) for a good while and I found it somewhat strange.

Once upon a time you walked into a BMW dealer and found a range of exclusive / premium well built driver focused cars, I found the experience very different from how I recall it of old, today its BMW badges all around for the masses but the price you pay for that appears to be that what you expect from a BMW - build quality wise at least - seems only to arrive half way through the range.

6 Series pricing is ridiculous - you can't really find a good 2012 GC below 30k yet you only need 40k for a virtually brand new one

Yes, I started with a 30k budget and it was looking like I would get a 12 car with quite a few miles so decided to go up to £35k as it seems to be worth it but for a extra £5k you can get a more or less new car with a amazing spec.

I expect he will keep this for a long long time as he is getting old now.
