BMW and M Power Owners

Good luck getting 22k for a 5 year old 5GT :p

No I was thinking 17 or 18k and I would get the new one for 39 or 40k hence about an extra 22k.

57k miles good spec SE 535 GT, do you think I would get under 18k?

I have to entirely agree with your views on the C-Class. It is truly horrible and tacky. Sure, it takes them away from the "old man" segment, but puts it firmly in the 17 year old "Max Power" segment (is Max Power still a thing?).

Other than that, I agree with Fox on the BMW interiors though. I would like to swap my 5 series for something more fun. The M3/M4 is just too much money for that interior, coming from a 5 series. The 340i would get a shout, but, again, that interior just feels like too much of a downgrade.

It is absolutely fine in the 1 series. Best in class I don't doubt. It probably is best, or close to best in class on the 3 series too. But in relation to other BMW models, it just doesn't do the car the justice it deserves.

Personal opinion of course. But it is a big part of the reason I am not currently waiting on a 340i Touring. That said, I'm not waiting on an S4 either, so....

I'm glad I'm not the only one... that's exactly the kind of tackiness I'm referring to.

It's standard on the 6 and above and common enough on the M4 but I am amazed you've found it so often on 3's and 4's. So amazed I have to ask if you are confusing it for something else... we are talking about the actual dash in leather not the centre console and door cards?

It's almost a £1000 option and has no effect on residuals so I can think of no reason why it would be specified as an additional option on rental 320d's. They are mostly BMW UK registered cars that turn up as approved used later on - if they were being ordered with a leather dash in sufficient volume for you to continually receive them where are they on the AUC site? :p

Agree completely, I am not a fan of the E Class interior especially compared with the 5 Series. I suspect though that the new E Class, due next year, will be very nice.

No confusion... I know the difference between the std leather and extended leather :)

My M4 was double booked and I missed out on it, argh... the F-Type had only been upgraded to earlier the same day, so I missed out on that as a free upgrade... argh.

So I was offered a refund and... 320d, 330d, 420d, X530d, 520d or 530d.

So of course I picked the 530d... the engine's as pleasant as any of the 6-cylinders.

The interior is quite nice, I get what people are talking about with the more cocooned cockpit... but I just don't get the big deal about the interior. It's so similar to the 3/4 series, I really can't see what all the fuss is about. I think they're both good...

I like this latest gen 5 series more than I liked the 2011 M5 I drove... maybe I just didn't get long enough with the M5. I much prefer the 5 to the 7, without a doubt.

But I still prefer the 4 series... the driving dynamics are noticeably better.

On the flip side, if I was sitting on the motorway up and down the country or across europe all the time... I'd pick the 5, no doubt about it.

I'm a little surprised that I'm not getting much more fuel economy from this 5 series over the 7 series... I actually got better economy in the 640d.

Of all the cars I mentioned above, some you'd be less likely to expect to have extended leather. I seem to have got on the of the few 530ds without the option ticked. I don't mind the plastic though, it's OK.

At least we agree about the E-Class :)

Just for info, I've placed an order for the Gen II MyCarly Bluetooth adaptor. While the original one supported the E60, the new one has iDRIVE functions as well as F series support (coming when they update the app). Hopefully be here within the month (coming from Germany to NZ) and then I can have a play with it but it does look promising for those that want to play around with the coding using an android app.

Hi I've been getting more annoyed with my e60s CCC and wondered what people would recommend to potentially replace it with? I know you can retrofit a CIC from an F10 but that would cost me around $3500NZD for the privilege; I know of Dynavin but are there any others that people might recommend?

Who and where are you renting from? Sixt somewhere in Grtmany?

Thrifty Gatwick.

You have to catch a shuttle bus to the hilton to pick up the car... but I'm happy enough with it, because I found I could get decent upgrades for cheap. Otherwise, they tend to have some decent cars on stock :)

Been to Thrifty Luton once too, they had some decent vehicles also... 335/435/535/740... but then you have to deal with Luton airport (eurgh)... it was worth it that one time as I was going to Yorkshire instead of Dorset for a change.

My experience with Sixt Germany has been quite poor... if you want any decent vehicle, you have to go all the way to Stuttgart or Frankfurt and the standard stock near the Swiss border is quite poor quality / spec.

Ah, you're renting in the UK. Assumed this side of the Channel for some reason.

Never used Sixt personally as I have a #1 card with Hertz and I always get good rates using CDPs. Just saw that Sixt had some nice metal :)

Always seem to get a decent car with Avis in Stuttgart

Had some new rear tyres today and also got them to do an alignment check as the front was out, which is now isn't. Car into BMW on Wednesday for a service and stamp. Now on 87,000 miles and frankly the car looks superb all around. One small mark on the offside front wheel but outside of that it looks nothing like a near 90,000 mile car. I had the front end dealt with by Shorade to remove chips about 10K miles back and it looks really good.

Decided to keep it and run it into the ground as my next car won't be able to tow so will need a car for that. I have added about 3K miles to it this year, my wife about 4K! Such a great car for daily duties and long motorway runs, perfect in fact.
