BMW and M Power Owners

Why would anyone buy a £3k 530d anyway? Totally pointless cars at this pricepoint - not economical with the autobox, potential minefield of engine trouble and people pay stupid money for them.

The 530i is just a better car.

Would you recommend buying a 530i as a car to commute 80 miles per day in, bearing in mind I have to pay for fuel myself. Surely I'd struggle to get more than 30mpg out of a tank? Then again I suppose this can offset how much more a 530d costs over a 530i?

Ok thanks for that. I am struggling; I don't want to spend big money on a car to do 30k a year in, but at the same time I don't want to buy something like a Focus/Astra/Mondeo/Vectra etc. Some luxury would be nice, and I like BMW's.

I'd spend up to £10k, but that would be E60 money and everyone keeps telling me the E60 is crap. If I spent £15k I'd want an F11, which isn't going to happen. I'm not interested in an E93 because the build quality on my E92 was not up to scratch.

I think you should probably go and drive an accord diesel or the likes then see how you feel. You'd be getting a much newer car, they're generally very well screwed together and can carry a fantastic amount of stuff.

Alternatively it might make you feel that despite not quite what you expected quality wise, the 3 series is actually still worth the extra

I can't own another Honda, the Civic was enough.

Looking at a 325i coupe 2007 manual. Should I be looking for anything in particular? First time buying a second hand car, bit worried it has 83,000 miles, but perfect features, sat nav etc. It says it's been under BMW extended warranty since original expired, I assume that's a good thing!

I don't think there are too many specific things to check. Just ensure the service book has been stamped. Find out if the extended warranty is paid annually or monthly, because annual policies can be transferred.
- Check the seat belt catch arms are working.
- The iDrive will tell you all the service intervals and when the next round of servicing is due.

What do I need to install a Dynavin N6 for an E46 that has a standard head unit? As far as I can tell I need a bracket to relocate the climate control panel and the N6 unit itself. Are there any other ancillaries that I need?

Brilliant thanks. Does the unit come with USB leads for ipods/mp3 players?
Have you had any feedback on how the bluetooth hands free sounds on the other end? Looking forward to getting this bought and installed!

Thaks Jez, really useful info there. I'll let you know how I get on. Seems you can pick them up from eBay for £399.

Edit - The E46 specific one is much more expensive!

True but I like a good console cubby hole for my keys and wallet, but then I also like double DIN stereo's with nav and such... The Polo is full of cubby holes, I imagine they are where the features should be, if it had any. :p

Ahh well, the E46 is next on my list for test driving anyway. :D

There is a 318CI at the garage down the road which I might take for a spin, but I would prefer to test a 6 pot. Meaning it would be the second BMW I've test driven...

The first being a 118D M-Sport, which I found to be nice to drive, cabin was a nice place to be, ride was firm, it handled like it was on rails, surprisingly smooth for a diesel, but disappointingly uncomfortable. And rather ugly. I eliminated it because of the need for RF tyres (which people say is the main culprit for the bumpy ride) and the lack of space for a spare wheel.

If you get any BMW, make sure it has 6 cylinders.
