BMW and M Power Owners

It's as quick as a 2.0TFSI A4 and has the correct number of cylinders?

Can't really argue with that. The 2.0TFSI special edition s-line quattro my Mrs has does feel pretty quick. But it has more horsepower than the standard model apparently!

What's the 325 like for reliability? Not too worried on fuel consumption, using a fuel card :)

Exactly the same as the 330i because its the same engine. It's a stratified direct injection unit with a high pressure fuel pump and was known for being troublesome with the injection system. No idea if thats sorted as they've got older. My Dad had an E60 525i with the same engine, it needed 6 coils and an HPFP..

It lasted a few years and was then binned. Check the range now :( I bet you'll never see another!

Very much so.

Even 6 cylinder diesels are comparatively rare :(
:(

I was browsing PH for petrol Audis and BMWs but there's really nothing, even from the E60/E90 generations. Where are all the 530i and 335is? Where the E90s all coupes and convertibles or something?

Evening all,

Following on from a thread I started about changing my A4 to a Jag, spoke with my bosses who are happy for me to look at lease deals to get me in brand new cars.

Went to the BMW showroom today and fell in love with the 4GC, just went on national lease website to spec up and came to around £360 ex.VAT per month. Just wondering before I start looking around at proper quotes is this the spec I ideally want to be looking at? Assume the above is the roundabout budget.

That is a huge amount of money for one of those, there were some much much better 4GC deals a while back, cheaper than that for a 430d!

I had a 420d for 5 days last week and drove it a lot. Frankly it's just a 3 Series with a practical rear boot but one of the benefits of the 4 over the 3 is that the base specification is better which means leasing deals don't force you to drive a crud spec car - I believe Pro media is standard on the M Sport for example, as are Xenons.

It was ok, usual 3 Series interior and fairly slow but it did handle nicely. I felt that it was a fundamentally decent, fun to drive car that was somewhat spoiled by it's engine - a 428i or a 430d would be a far nicer car. I found the engine oddly intrusive, presumably the 4 Series is light on sound deadening and refinement to give it that sport feel, whilst I'm sure that makes a 435i epic it makes a 420d a chore.

Mine was an XDrive but despite this it seemed to do about 50mpg everywhere, which was a bonus.

The deal above is terrible and I suspect the main reason why it is terrible is because you have added factory options. Factory options almost always ruin lease deals and make them very expensive and most lease firms simply take the FULL cost of the option and divide it over the term, so you take a real hit.

Come on - that is £22,000 to borrow a 420d for 4 years. If your boss has any sense he'll laugh you out of the office and tell you to try again so its in your interest to find a deal that isn't as laughable as that.

Thanks for the input fox. Coming from a 10 year old A4 and jumping into this is make a much much nicer place to be.

As above though this was just a very quick spec up for the car on one site, not even looked about yet, I do like my bling hence the 19" option ticked however maybe I can do away with this.

Take away all the options added, it is still a nicely spec car 100 miles away from what I am currently driving.

I did take a seat in a 5 series today, and whilst a fantastic car maybe a little too big for my requirements...although if the right spec came along on a good lease deal then could be tempted.

Like I say I havn't even looked around yet on pricing.

Your best bet is to look around for really good lease deals on a 4GC and just take the base spec. The base spec is absolutely fine on an M Sport, you'll get Xenons, bodykit, professional nav, etc. The key to a good lease deal is not to be fussy which is why they never work for annoying people like myself.

From what I've seen lately the bargain going around if there is any allocation left is the 330e M Sport - the new plug in hybrid coming out later this year. There have been some crazy cheap deals on those, far less than the £22k over 4 year deal you've found on that 4 Series (Don't forget to add 600 quid to that for your fourth year warranty!).

£ 293 ex.VAt on the same site for basic model without any options ticked.

Exactly which shows my point, so that is £3700 including VAT to add wheels, a better stereo and adaptive cruise control to a 4 year lease. That is absolutely not worth it, you could probably buy the wheels yourself for way less than that and sell them on later!

When leasing, no no no to options. Which is why the 4GC is an interesting shout because being stuck in a car with the small screen nav, no xenons etc is annoying, but the 4GC standard spec is excellent.

Ok thanks for that, will take a look. Maybe I got a little trigger happy with the options!!

To be honest it's a mistake everyone makes with leasing as logic would dictate that many of these options add to the residual value of the car and you should get some of that back at resale time, but most lease deals do not take this into account. For randon trinkets like adaptive cruise I get that, but it's frustrating on a car where you know it's a resale disaster without satnav yet they still want the FULL cost of the nav over the term to add it... or ones who charge you for met paint!

Try this..

Thanks for the input. Speaking to them again next week to sort out way about how they can provide me a car (EU employer but I am home based within the UK).

Remember he's doing 15k per year mileage, which will also go a long way to killing any sensible lease deal he can get.

I'd also be wary of going for a 4 year lease, unless the company is taking it on themselves. What happens at year 2 and you move company? Or the company goes bust and you lose your job? Are you going to have to default on the agreement, or does the company?

M-Sport Plus would usually be the package to go for, especially if your wanting HK audio and 19's anyway, but for some reason it doesn't seem such a no brainer here. Even when you consider the M-Sport brakes. Which on a 420d is little more than show anyway.
