BMW and M Power Owners

it's ridiculous. Yeah, I was only in jeans and a hoody as it's the weekend, but I was/am a serious buyer and had obviously done their homework - surely you're not expected to wear work clothes on a weekend just to be treated as a buyer?!? I knew all about the options I wanted, even providing a list of exactly what I wanted to avoid the "oo, this is far better than that" upsell -so obviously wasn't on a whim passing the dealer at the time and after a jolly in one of their cars. Hell, if I was after that then surely I would have been wanting something more than a 1 series...

With 16 plate cars around the corner, why don't they have key models of each available to demo (hell, I wasn't even asking to borrow the car for a weekend)? it just seems crazy to expect someone to buy a 30+k 3.0l 6 pot petrol car and only get to demo a 2.0 diesel... I even had 2 of their sales ppl pushing me as "it's just a similar 1 series"... I pointed out they had a couple 135 used cars available on their website, which surely would be more representative, but they were too much trouble to get out there and then. I've told them I'll be back in a couple days and expect to try a 135, whether it's an approved used or new (and will expect/need them to match the cheaper quote to get my business).

To be fair, the 120d probably IS the key model. I suspect they will sell them by the bucket load, where the 135i is probably a relatively rare sale for them. But I do get you point.

This dealer doesn't sound right for you anyway. Do you not have another dealer you can try? I never "dress up" when I go looking at cars. Yet I only find it's places like Ford dealerships that treat me like a test pilot. BMW / Audi / Merc etc... don't seem to bother how I look. Which is fine. I usually go in jeans and hoody too.

Gotta love the dealers... Went to one over the weekend to test drive a M135i before placing an order. I was especially keen to as I've only had manuals but with the praise of the 8sp auto with the 135 I thought I'd give it a go in the hope to see it working with me. So, as I said to them, I want to try the car in auto before parting with cash. All they had was a 120d and they were confused why I was unwilling to part with cash after trying the 120d, as they kept saying the 135i is the same, just quicker. Surely it's not wrong to be expected to demo the same model of car you're wanting to buy? It seemed a bit naff to be told "yeah, the handling and steering is slightly different and it's a diesel instead of petrol, b....

Wow

Absolutely ridiculous. Their loss mate.

My local Beemer dealer (at the time Watford) were more than happy to let me test drive a M135i. And that was without making any verbal commitment. In the end I placed my order with a dealer in Kent. Upon placing that order they asked whether I'd like to test drive their M235i.... Of course I said yes.

Just though you should know that not all Beemer dealers act like ****!

Before I ordered mine I was offered a test drive in the M235i as the local dealer had no M135i in stock. Once I'd placed the order they gave me an M235i for 4 days to ensure that I got on well with it (which I did, apart from the difficult access to the rear for a baby seat, which I why I chose the M135i in the first place).

In short, not all BMW dealers are plonkers.

I got an M135i test drive this weekend after a quick chat with one of the salesmen. Super easy, no hassle, and got to completely throttle the car. The idea of getting fobbed off with a 120d wouldn't have been met well.

It might have helped that my car was in for works already, but saying that I'm not entirely sure that the salesman knew about my car being in or not.

Adjust it some more because a 20k 4 series will be a bit sucky.

Better still remove it from the list as the 3 series is exactly the same car but available for less.

Would that apply to cars that are a 1/2 years old? Since I have the blessings I am looking into new cars. But you're right mate -I was playing around with the build your car thingy for both the 3 and 4 series and I'd get more from a 3.

Looking into options (so that I dont get carried away) - what are options that I should add to a 320d auto msport? So far I have added:
  • Media Pack professional
  • Advance Parking Pack
  • Sun protection glass
  • Heated seats front
  • Folding mirrors
  • Sports automatic transmission
  • Front armrest
  • Badge deletions

I was looking at the M sport pack but not entirely sure if its worth adding. Broadspeed have quoted me with a price of ~£30400.

Surely some of that stuff is standard on a 3 Series? They've all got heated seats, they've all got a sliding armest. Sports Auto is a good shout though as is Professional Media pack. Xenon headlights are also essential on a 1/2 year old one.

Other than that the rest is just 'nice to have' stuff. Advance Parking Pack is cool but you'll find it really hard to find on a used 320d and they have rear PDC anyway as standard.

Have motors become free and weigh nothing then ?

Its part of the price of entry to get people in he showroom and then the related trim / option walk.

Quite clearly that wasn't my point...

As time progresses usually options of yesteryear become standard.

Air con, electric windows, even things like ABS!

It's fair to say you could safely assume something like electric seats or at least heated seats would be the norm. I guess not.

Had my eye on a nearly new 335 saloon m sport, would be trading in my 18 month old 330d tourer msport against it. Dealer just rang to say they'd want £10k cash on top of my car. They really are having a laugh! BMW dealers are very hard to work with compared with other marques.
