BMW and M Power Owners

Think my front discs are warped, quite bad vibrations under braking :(

Just had new pads all around too, annoyed. Goes into BMW to be checked over but I suspect will need to swap discs again. Also as we are keeping it as our run around/tow car I'm going to get the suspension made new as with close to 90K miles it's feeling a little tired.

I was also doing some virtual shopping last night, as you do and I reckoned I could get a decent E39, E60 and F10 M5 for 70K all in with some aggressive shopping. I've got nowhere to put them but I think that would make an interesting collection as they all do what they do differently, though I suspect Fox might have a heart attack at the incoming thread.

So my car is in for warranty work and I have a 2 Series Active Tourer - Luxury for a few days.

Things that I don't understand:

1. Luxury spec but no hill hold or electric seats.

2. Electronic handbrake switch is in front of and to the left of the gear stick. It is in an awfully awkward position.

3. HUD is projected onto a pop up panel and not the window. The benefit of the HUD on the 5 series is that it is in the perfect position near eye level. This is not and therefore detracts from one of the main benefits.

4. Climate controls are too low down and the temp display is far too small compared to the 5 series.

5. Gear stick is a large clunky one which locks in place as opposed to the click and return of the 5 series.

5. Seats are rubbish and give little to no support.

6. The boot is tiny

7. The navigation display looks like a glued on iPad, embedded looks much better.

Things I like:

It beeps when I leave the car and have left it in drive.

The rotate switch for the rear wiper activation.

I can't wait to get my car back. On a side note, how do people feel about the DAB radio? On my F11 it seems to cut out a lot in Bristol but the 2 Series seems to work fine on the same route.

Whereas your F11 just puts it in drive for you and leaves you alone :p

lol

I should add that the BMW reversing camera is very good, but again, luxury spec and no surround view? Ambient lighting and keyless access are nice additions in fairness.

I just don't understand the logic. the F10/F11 shows great design consideration and I can't figure out the change for change's sake approach. The handbrake positioning is nothing short of idiotic unless it was left hand drive.

It is a completely different vehicle on a completely different platform - hence the old style gearshifter as the ZF 8 Speed in your F11 won't fit into an FWD car, etc.

Luxury doesn't add Surround View as standard on anything - order a 550i Luxury and there is no surround view so I'm not sure why you'd expect an option as exotic as that to be present on an FWD MPV? The main addition of Luxury spec is generally Pro navigation.

Odd, the suspension on the E60 (157k) has no obvious signs of wear other than a replaced front arb and tie rods. Perhaps that's all you really require?

What does pro-nav give over Business Nav please?

A better high resolution screen, better detail mapping with 3d buildings etc, nicer graphics in the menus, a hard drive for music (Which to be fair is useless), larger screen allows split screen operation etc.

Business Nav is look using half of Windows 7 in 800x600 mode instead of on a proper screen.

I assumed it was standard on the F10? Either way, I miss my own car.

Yea, its really really excellent but almost never specced.

Because who cares about useful tech as long as the car has big wheels and tints :(

Using the front cameras on blindspot junctions is one of the best things about it!

I've started getting an rubbing / abrasive noise from my driver side rear wheel. It started quite suddenly with a very small clunk. It is intermittent (for instance I didn't hear it at all on my 3 mile drive this morning). It made a similar noise last year which turned out to the be the handbrake shoe / handbrake drum which was falling apart and had rusted bits spinning around in it. It was replaced. Could the same part have gone in about 1 year / 8,000 miles? Its an 346 330ci

Is it an auto and do you use the handbrake much? They tend to fail on autos through lack of use, people tend to use P instead of the handbrake...

A slight rubbing noise on my 530 turned out to be a stuck front caliper which quickly borked my disc and pads, get it looked at asap before you end up with a nice bill for new brakes!

Had a quote sent from a BMW dealer for a 320d msport I spec'd up on broadspeed which totaled to 31k cash price. £492 pm for 35 months at 10k miles p/a on the BMW Select? Not sure how as C Class on pcp is at £322p/m on more or less the same terms.

Then a guy from G2L came back with a lease offer for a 420d msport at £282 pm but I have to make a decision by tomorrow.... erm nope, really dislike when they try and pressure you into a decision.

No, surround view is very much not standard on the F10. Its a comparatively rare option.

What sort of price is it though. I've seen it on the JLR Stuff and wince at the price. It's impressive in the 7 series though as also offers an option of third person view from a number of angles around the car!
