BMW and M Power Owners

An M4 GTS followed me on the way to work this morning, and turned into the BMW HQ in Farnborough. One word, wow. It has so much more road presence than the vanilla F80 M4. Can't wait to see it go round a track at some point.

I think it's fairly nasty - very poor specification, no navigation, cloth seats - all it seems to have going for it is that it's a BMW and its a great colour.

There is absolutely no way I'd entertain doing 60 miles a day without cruise control.

Just put a deposit down on this;

2013 car with the following options;

  • Cruise control with brake function.
  • Headlight wash.
  • BMW Professional navigation system.
  • Brushed aluminium interior trim.
  • BMW Advanced loudspeaker system.
  • Sun protection glass.
  • Heated front seats.
  • BMW Assist.
  • Sport automatic transmission.
  • Front and rear park distance control (PDC).
  • Full black panel display.
  • Windscreen with green shade band.
  • Adaptive M Sport suspension.
  • Enhanced Bluetooth functionality including BMW Assist.
Trading the 330Ci against it and picking it up this week, should be some good fun over the Easter holiday :D

What's the engine like in that car? With the right spec is it a good car overall?

It's not an engine I am a fan of but for your purposes it's probably a good choice - though I'd want it with the 8 speed automatic box. Also, get a warranty.

Wow, excellent spec - you've got all the important boxes ticked there.

Hope you negotiated the second year of warranty in :D

Thanks Fox, I did take heed of your advice on the Rybrook one and went further afield for this. I'd have liked Harmon Kardon but you can't have it all, this one ticked every other box for me at least.

Unfortunately I was unsuccesful with the negotiation for the second years warranty but I did put in some effort to get it. It was met with a standard "BMW won't allow us to do that anymore, even though they used to."

I'm not looking forward to the part where you tell me that's BS... :(

Anything else you would recommend apart from a 120d?

Auto
Low mileage
Bluetooth
Cruise Control
iPod/USB Connectivity
Keyless
Start/Stop

Seems to tick all of the boxes apart from leather.

On a side note, what would your opinion be on a M135i? It's affordable. I'd be looking at 2-3 year old examples, for around £20k. This would be funded by £5k of personal cash, with the rest through a loan. Sainsbury's seem to have a good rate at the moment. 3.2/3.3% APR. Over 5 years it's only circa £270 a month.

I just don't know if it's feasible to chuck 15k miles on an M135i, year in year out.

Yea it's BS, never mind though as I'm not sure it's really worth as much as a 'deal' on the 1 and 3 Series. It's mostly useful for the bigger cars where the warranty costs you a lot more to renew. The 1 Series renewal is cheap anyway.

Do you have an Evans Halshaw gift voucher or something? :p Why are all your finds from them?

Keyless and Start/Stop are standard on any 1 Series btw.

The only option it's got is cruise and an autobox...

I doubt you'd lose any more money on an M135i and 15k a year isn't mega miles. Does seem like a waste of that engine though and it's hard to see how a 120d isn't arguably more suitable.

What about a 120i?

Cheers - that was my understanding, I figured it'd be much cheaper than say a 6 series or similar so wasn't too fussed.

Annoys me that they say crap like that when clearly it's a lie.

It's usually not deliberate, they simply don't know, somebody has told them and they've believed it etc etc. When I bought my 335i they said it wasn't even possible. I asked them to go and check and they came back seemingly amazed and then conceded they could...

Thankfully I don't have an Evans Halshaw gift voucher :D Those examples were just the first couple that popped up on Autotrader.

I'm guessing by your suggestion of a 120i, you think an M135i is probably a daft idea? By the looks of it the 120i appears to be out of my budget? £20k max. Plus if I'm spending upwards of £20k, that affords me a nice Approved Used M135i...
