So no run flat recommendations?

Mine was...

The goodyear excellence on mine have been holding up great. Still got the original ones on the front, after 40k, and still seems like plenty tread on them.

If you are only getting one tyre though, get the same as the one on the other axle. I find Camskill to be one of, if not the cheapest place to buy tyres.

I'd expressly recommend against the Excellence. It's an incredibly old tyre kept alive by OEM supply contracts - even new ones have the old Goodyear sidewall design from years ago. My car (As are many F10/F11 on 19's) was supplied with them and I was very glad to be shot of them. I don't doubt they last long but the grip levels offered are poor. I don't drive like a nutcase but I was often finding the DSC having to sort out a deficit of grip pulling off roundabouts etc.

Changing to another tyre made this go away.

I'd actively avoid choosing them, there seems little point in picking such an old tyre. I suspect other more modern tyres offer similar life *and* better performance.

Very rarely do I have the DSC sorting the car out in my 40k of driving on them. I guess I'm even less of a nutcase. Although the car does occasionally get hammered.

Do you ever post anything sensible?

Yes. It just seems that my humour isn't to the taste of some people, I can see why but its just how I am... :p

On a serious note, I had some Conti's and they were great, but they wore down incredibly fast, as some people in here have mentioned. I have Falkens at the moment, they aren't wearing as fast but they also aren't particularly good, they produce a fair amount of road noise and not as much grip as I would like. They also aren't very progressive, the grip just falls away when you reach the limitations of the tyres. I did have some Uniroyals at one point as well, but don't really have much to say about them as I didn't use them much.

I have some Eagle F1A2's sitting downstairs because they seem to be an incredibly highly acclaimed tyre on here. I have high hopes for them. :)

What drawbacks to runflats have aside from harshness..? Or is that the soile reason why people don't like them?

I took the car in to check out the screw stuck in the tyre this morning, the chap pulled it out and it was less than 5mm in length and fortunately doesn't seem to have gone all the way through. I might start putting some money aside for a decent set of non-run flats for all four corners now that this outcome seems to have bought me some time.

Run flats (17") on my MINI tramlined like crazy at higher speeds and it was like driving on skateboard wheels, absolutely hated them and the harsh ride. On my BMWs the run flats seem more suitable (maybe heavier car helps), all bumps are quite noticeable at low low speeds but from about 30/40mph feels fine. Aren't run flats also noisier?

I had and still have ContiSport 5s on my A3 and they are great. Although I only got 14k out of my front set. Plenty of grip and great performance in the wet. A little noisy though.

Proxy P1s on the Fiesta, was ok but **** when wet. Conti 3's on the VXR, very good tyres. Pirelli P Zero on the Mondeo, another very good tyre. F1A2 on the Mondeo which was awesome, was very happy with them.

Now got F1A2 on the back and F1A3 on the front on the BMW but can't quite make an opinion on them at the moment. Seem a bit louder than the bridgestone eco tyres that was on before. Trying to suss the grip levels at the moment.

The more I drive the CSC6 the more I'm liking them. It's mostly the noise (or lack of...). Just a nicer tyre to live with than the PSS especially on the motorway.

Well consider that the PSS are due to go end of life soon and the CSC6 are fresh and already being raved about. Plus they are a bit cheaper. I think you'd really like them.

But it's your money and choice so...

Audio upgrades in cars around 2009, 1/3 Series.

Has anyone upgraded their speakers in such cars? Or indeed are their any recommended known good audio specialists who know what they are doing with BMW's within the West Mids?

I need to renew my BMW warranties as they are nearing expiry (don't know what the previous renewal cost was as they were AUC last April), do these amounts look right? Seems very high for the 330i. Do previous warranty claims bump up the renewal cost?

As both cars are way under 60k miles I might pay the annual amount to save myself about £80 but it's a lot of big bills all at once as my insurance renews on both cars at the same time! Is there any reason to go with the monthly payments instead (other than spreading the cost) or is that only important to keep premiums low when crossing the 60k miles threshold?

BMW X3 (F25) 2012 18k miles
Excess | Annual | Monthly
£000 | £606.99 | £65.00
£100 | £426.00 | £47.00
£250 | £328.00 | £38.01
(excess is per claim)

BMW 330i (E93) 2011 35k miles
Excess | Annual | Monthly
£000 | N/A | N/A
£100 | £533.00 | £50.99
£250 | £399.99 | £38.01
(excess is per claim)

Is that including emergency service?

Those are the new customer prices, they used to have a discount of around 15% for renewals. It seems from those prices that this has stopped...

Actually is the 330 a new quote as I notice you have N/A for 0 excess. I am surprised its not the same as the X3 in terms of cost? These two cars should have the same cost.

Can you clarify the details of these quotes?

Those are both excluding Emergency Service. The X3 quote I got using the pin they sent me on a renewal letter, but I have not had the renewal letter on the 330i yet so I assume those are new customer prices.
