BMW and M Power Owners

Lovely car but doesn't the seat bolster put people off?

Spotted that too but light leather and 87k, probably to be expected. Seems strong money, mine was a very similar but less mileage and went for £15k 2 years ago, which is what I paid for it a year before. Seems like they may just holding their value though.

Wish i would dare buy one. Not got the balls though, too much scare mongering on here lol

Find one with less than 60k and keep the monthly warranty going, about £100-120 a month it was when I looked last. I ran one for a year with no issues but always had a repair fund ready just in case :D

They seem to use lock jammers so you think the car is locked but it isn't, come back to the car to programme themselves a new fob and drive off. I don't think it's been easier to steal a car. For some bizarre reason manufactures don't lock away or immobilise the ODB port. Probably interrupted halfway through the process and the car isn't happy with it.

Yeah the old ODB port would be my first guess too, really quite simple to prevent it I swap the ODB power leads (pins 9-16)round using a switch hidden further up the wiring loom. 100% effective, would also blow up anyone's cable if they tried it in the port.

I keep meaning to patent it :p

? :D

look at pin 16 on your ODB loom, follow it back a bit, swap it with pin 9 using a simple polarity switch and your ODB port is rendered completely useless, will also pop the chip on a cable if someone tried to use it.

Well, it's been a year with the 330d E91, it's an oldie, but I'm absolutely in love with her.

However, she needs a spruce up. 2 areas that need attention is the stopping power and wollowy suspension.

I've decided on B12 Blisteins all over for the suspension upgrade using Eibach Pro springs.

Next is caliper/pad/disk replacement. The OEM's are 348mm, so size is fine. But I need more stopping power. Any suggestions?

Other than that, the body work isn't as perfect as first was revealed, so it needs some TLC. But for a 10 year old car, it's nothing to sniff at! The wheels were fine until one evening I stupidly crunched up the passenger side on a low level curb. My own stupid fault. So need to get them re done at some point.

Tyres, I've ran the Pilot Sports for almost a year now and I'd be surprised if they lasted another 6 months. My opinion of them isn't great. The grip is not great in the dry, great in the wet. Had under steer a couple of times and they are stupidly loud the lower the tread is. So open to suggestions on new rubber.

Just wondering what you guys think of this: https://www.gumtree.com/p/bmw/bmw-e46-m3-smg-2001/1180336642

It up on a local car forum to me. Miles are perhaps a bit high for what I would class as a great one, but surely there isn't much price-wise for this to drop, so long as I don't slam 50k on it.

Looking for something cheaper, and a bit more fun, than the 530d to roll around in for a couple years, once the 5 goes back (but I could replace it sooner). So been looking more towards Golf GTI ED30's or R32's (with a view to either stage 2+ or supercharge respectively), to give in the region of 350 bhp. But then this will be close enough to that bhp figure, the same, or similar to the base price of of the ED30 / mkV R32, and I would imagine right at the bottom of the depreciation curve?

OK, it will be a LOT older than either the ED30 or R (both circa 2008), but could be a bit of fun I guess to own a M3, do not huge miles, and it only costing me whatever it costs to keep it on the road.

E46 M3's can be reliable enough, but you would have to massively check the car out, get it inspected on some ramps, check all the suspension joints and bushes, then get the subframe mounts/boot floor checked for cracks, then compression test the engine, and take it for a long drive, get it nice and hot and check the SMG doesn't play up..

I would honestly say if you reserved £3K to cover any common issues popping up, then it might be worth a punt, although it already has the rear arches/front wings rusting, so instantly that's a few hundred even if done on the cheap..

If you want 'cheap motoring', I'd go for the Golf, it's got far far far less common issues and cheaper parts by a country mile..

With the Pro Nav setup I understand you can set "speed dials" to the 8 buttons on the "stereo". I have successfully set two to be direct links to DAB radio stations, but want to set one as a one button press to start Navigation to home but cannot work out how to do it.

Can anyone give me a tep by step to saving a specific nav destination as a "speed dial" button?

Just find your address via "Destination Entry" and once that's done and under the "cursor" for selection just hold down the button you want to assign it to. I have done exactly the same in my car!

Cheers, that sorted it, I was going one step too far before trying to save it.

My mum and her partner have just put down a deposit on this...

Besides the fact that it's a totally unsuitable car for them (relatively low earners, never owned such a class of car, no real budget for running costs), is there anything to suggest that it's a good buy? Prices on these seem to be all over the place depending on location.

Your link doesn't open a specific car on my phone.
