BMW and M Power Owners

Ha, oh my god... :p

Ignoring how the spring is sitting for just a moment, has that been lowered by compressing the bottom section of the spring?

I thought spring clamps for lowering was something that stopped long ago for safety/legal reasons... :D

I know its not a BMW but have a look at the cheapest GT86 on Autotrader, for another treat... I'm assuming nobody has bought it. :p

wow, poor gt86, I'm guessing if it was a cat c/d you'd be all over it? :p :D

It was originally on for 16,995, wonder how much lower they will have to go to move that one on!

You anywhere near Coventry, this one might (not) be worth a look :p

I went to have a look at that and I've put a deposit down for it :D

On a serious note, I have put a deposit down for one. 330d, 93k, full service history, 8 months MOT, hpi clear, idrive, heated seats etc.

It needs a bit clean up as it has a few age related marks but nothing too bad. The wheels will be silver again :D

I got it for a decent price based on the spec and others that are around ;)

After my ongoing issues with Jaguar, I've spent some time looking at other cars and after ruling out Merc and Audi, I think I'm set on the 5 series. I've driven a few and been in to North Oxford a couple of times to look at their pre-reg and other used stock.

Unfortunately I know nothing really about the 5 series, so don't really know what I'm looking for in terms of must have options and what's standard and what isn't. The salesman I'm dealing with is pretty good but sometimes it feels like he tries to avoid questions about options on cars if he's trying to make me look at a particular car in their stock.

I'm looking at the 530d so just want some ideas on what I really need to have in a car and what's worth having. The one I'm leaning towards is this:

It's only just gone up on their site though so the listing is pretty bare, but the optional equipment looks pretty uneventful or am I expecting too much?

That car is almost identical to mine (I have folding seats instead of the camera, annoyingly) - right down to the colour combination. IMHO it has everything thats essential. Additional spec is always nice to have but dealers go nuts with the massive spec cars and 530d's are hard enough to find in the first place over 520d's.

So, clearly, I found that level of spec acceptable. You've got the important extras of Pro Nav and the Sport Auto Transmission but also a few nice bits too like Harmon Kardon Stereo and the reversing camera.

The standard specification of the 14 onwards F10's is very generous anyway - Xenon's, Full Black Panel Display, etc all standard now.

It looks reasonably priced for a 2016 car, too. That specification brand new through a broker with maximum discount would be about £38k. So the 6k or so saving is useful given it's only 6 months old.

Thanks Fox, exactly what I was after :)

Good to hear, I'll give them a call about looking in to this car a bit more then!

One thing that is almost certainly going to get mentioned at some point is that the F10 is end of life in November and the all-new model will be delivered from March of next year.

Now, this is a swings and roundabouts kinda thing.

On the one hand, you are about to buy a virtually new version of a model that is soon to be superceded.

On the other hand, this has already had a large effect on the prices of these cars - it was years and years before you could buy decent spec 6 cylinder M Sport 5 Series at 6 months old for 32k. Part of the reason they are now that sort of money is because of the age of the platform.

So, weigh up the pros and cons.

When I bought my first F10 in 2014 a good M Sport 530d was £27-28k and that was for a 3-4 year old car! It was even worse in the years before that as 'fresh model' effect keeps the prices high.

It's a hard car to buy really - I could suggest you look instead at a pre facelift car from circa 2011 but for decent examples from main dealers they are still about 20-21k for 5 year old cars?!

Ah ok did not know that...

Worth keeping in mind. I did wonder if there was a new car coming out soon but didn't realise it would be so soon :(

Also, on a slightly unrelated note...why do BMW now have ridiculous interiors on all their cars minus the 5 series? I hate this direction of having screens that look like bolted on tablets that every brand is heading towards. REALLY hope the new 5 series isn't using that? Seems to be the last of the series that is still integrated

Nooooooooooo! Well that makes buying the above car far easier then, I definitely don't mind having the last of the current model if the new one looks to be using the stick up screen too.

Rather petty reason not to have a car but it just ruins the whole look of the interior to me.

The F10 interior is basically perfect imo, I was blown away when I sat in one for the first time the other day.
