BMW and M Power Owners

Are E46 M3s still a good investment or has that bubble burst?

I'm no expert by any means but have been loosely watching the market for the last few years, and have noticed that the good ones are holding strong and or appreciating slightly.

If you can I'd buy a manual face-lift with good history and factor in the cost of a sub-frame repair you'll probably not go far wrong.

As far as an investment goes, and I appreciate you've probably used that term loosely anyway, I'd say they're not going to be moving much from here on out.

Unless one is extremely low miles and has been barely ever driven, I can’t see them having any investment potential. The standard M3 that is anyway. CS and CSL are different for obvious reasons.

A good normal one will hold strong value, but relative to everything you’ll be having sorted on it over the years, that value is diminished. Whoever buys your car after will reap the benefits of your spending. Or maybe you will reap them from the one you buy :p

Regardless, as mentioned above, a manual one, 2003 or later will be more desirable. Nice colour combos rather than grey on black, grey on grey and so on are typically less desirable.

Fox, or any other F10 experts...

Sorry to keep asking questions, but do the rear seats not fold down unless you have that as an option?

Oh...bugger :D that could potentially be an issue...

Luckily I've not been able to pay the deposit yet, am going in tomorrow...hmmm

Anyone on here able link to a safe place to buy map updates? I'm currently stuck with the early 2013 version.

I got mine through the M3Cutters Forum. Chap sent out the vehicle specific code needed for any future map updates, derived from the VIN I believe, and also 2 - 3 USB sticks containing the files which I then returned after installation. Takes about 45 minutes and has worked flawlessly since.

£45 for FSC code generation and updated maps.
£70 for Lifetime FSC code generation and updated maps. £20 after that for following map upgrades.

Will dig out his username if you want?

Edit: message in trust and I'll share the forum link, unless mods are happy.

Sounds a pretty similar process to this but haven't used them so can't vouch.

£45 for FSC code is alright. £70 for lifetime code is awesome, assuming you are keeping the car long term.

£20 for the map updates, well unless BMW have changed the pricing excessively, it's only a few quid cheaper. But cheaper is cheaper.

Trust sent. Thanks.

Whilst I'm on though, bit of a rant. Had the car back at the dealers today. Currently can't live with it. There's a random and nauseating high pitched electrical whine coming from something.

During the day it only sounds when the regen kicks in and the blue bar is full. As soon as you apply gas and the bar drop it goes.

At night it's active when the hud is on. Turn the hud off and it goes.

They're the only two things that affect it.

Dealer said they couldn't hear it...

Everyone else I've had in my car except my dad can. However his hearing is shot.

Dealer want me to take it in during the day so i can take them for a test drive. That's a massive inconvenience to me, am I right to be a bit peeved?

Similar to one of the issues I had with the XF, high pitched whine when accelerating that I and everyone else could hear, and so could the mechanics when I took them out but when it came to fixing it..."sorry can't hear it". That was alongside a juddering issue that made me kangaroo down the road when the car was cold.

6 times later and with neither issue fixed gave up and now have a 530d :p

Drove an M4 yesterday. I'd write more than that but quite frankly I found it a bit dull, no question it's better than my car in every measurable way and I'm in love with the styling of the M4, but it just wasn't as exciting to drive as mine.

Interesting, I was watching one of those "what I dislike" videos yesterday about m4 and the guy said the same thing about how it's not very involving.

Yep found that out on my dad's F10 - what a joke that its not standard.

I'm not surprised tbh.

Does the e92 have hydraulic steering? - how does the M4 steering compare?
