BMW and M Power Owners

Thanks, I had not considered them as the 520d I test drove felt "good enough". Did not realise they came with a higher spec as standard either. I guess the 6 pot will be a lot smoother than the 520d. Cheers for the heads

Opinions on this one?

Higher mileage than I was hoping for, but with the 12 months BMW warranty as its from a dealer. Compared to other 530d's on Autotrader its priced very well considering its manufacturer approved.

Options list looks good too. What am I missing? Apart from the fact after 1 year I'm left with a 530d on 110K miles with no warranty

Drove an M4 yesterday. I'd write more than that but quite frankly I found it a bit dull, no question it's better than my car in every measurable way and I'm in love with the styling of the M4, but it just wasn't as exciting to drive as mine.

To be expected really. BMW turbo petrol units sap the excitement out of driving, but they're so quick at the same time in all senses. It's pretty much BMW's GT-R.

There's no beating a highly strung naturally aspirated engine.

In other news, was able to fully realise the complete bush refresh tonight driving home. Car feels more sure footed when entering corners at speed, and can carry it through them at greater speed with greater confidence. Was it Gaygle that did his too? Remember reading similar remarks.

They do sound nice, but they don't sound exciting, which was what I was replying to :p

They have virtually zero induction noise, and some even fake it through the speakers.

Yeh i think I said that there wasn't any ground breaking "woahmg" difference, but the whole car just felt predictable, tight and just completely settled as a result. This meant that you could carry quite silly speeds through corners with absolutely no dramas whatsoever. The car just settles, grips and shoots you out of the corner. It also meant that driving at higher speeds again was dramaless. No wobbles, no nervousness, just confidence.

It's a lovely feeling and still makes me smile.

I think the E92 M3 Coupe is a much more enjoyable car... like you, I found the M4 dull... and I was driving it on-track with Palmersport... so I got to push it and play with it properly too... just dull and un-exciting.

That 4.0 V8 in the E92 is really special... then the balance of the car is just fun and playful.

You can tell the M4 is a bit lighter... it's just not as much fun.

If you have the Pro Nav on the 530d with the RemoteServices and online services etc, what does that allow me to do with my phone?

I'm assuming I can do the basics like lock and unlock it, but what else can I do? Can you do anything fancy like set the heating to come on from in the house on a frosty morning or is that an extra option?

You can:

Remote lock/unlock
Remote headlight flash
Remote configuration of independant ventilation - but all this does is turn the blower on in the car either immediately or at a preset time. It doesn't heat or cool. It's ambient air.
Locate the car and show position on a map
Find navigation destinations and send them to the car using either the app itself or Google Maps on a PC

2015 and 2016 cars also get free USB navigation map updates until they are 3 years old. You can download the maps from the BMW ConnectedDrive portal.

Oh I like that, that's very useful! Good news about the maps too. Thanks Fox!

I absolutely cannot wait to get this car. It's so annoying having to wait potentially another 4 weeks almost until we complete on this house. A very silly part of me is saying "just go and collect it now, the mortgage will be fine", but I think I'd be living in that car if I caused the house to fall through at the last minute :D

I'm not surprised tbh.

Does the e92 have hydraulic steering? - how does the M4 steering compare?

Pretty sure the E92 is still hydraulic (open to being corrected). I couldn't comment on the steering of the M4 as it left that little of an impression on me. It was nice to potter around town in with it being really light in comfort mode and I didn't dislike it, but I wasn't blown away by handling.

Yes, relined it in 2nd, 3rd and got quite far through 4th before glancing at the heads up display (which I really liked actually) and realising I should probably back off a bit, but it got to those speeds without any drama or excitement, the last few thousand revs in the E92 make me grin whereas the F8x didn't.

Nail on the head. Went to Spa earlier this year with a few friends in a mix of E92s and F82s and the general consensus from those who were having a drive in both of them was that the E92 was the more enjoyable car to drive.

It's the rules isn't it?

Currently the F82 is nasty because its the new one and it's nothing like as good as the OMG AMAZING E92, claim E92 owners.

7 years ago the E92 is nasty because its the new one and its nothing like as good as the OMG AMAZING E46, claim E46 owners.

14 years ago the E46 is nasty because its the new one and its nothing like as good as the OMG AMAZING E36, claim E36 owners.

Coming soon: Me telling everyone the new 5 Series sucks :D

I get what you're saying, and I'm aware I'm starting to sound like the general populous of M3Cutters who insist that the E46 M3 is the "last proper M car innit" because that's the only one any of them can afford scrape by running whilst fathering 3 kids to 3 different women.

Fact is I really like the F80 M3 and ones like this or this make me do a little sex-wee in my pants, hell just after doing the test drive I came back to my car to see an M4 parked next to it and thought how much better the M4 looks than mine. Dangle the keys to an E92 and an F80 in front of me I'd probably take the F80, but add the £15-20k it would cost to updrade as a pile of cash next to the E92 key and the F80 wouldn't even get a look in.

The new 5 series will suck. It'll have some stick-on ipad like thing for the Nav.

And throughout all them previous gen owners talking about the new generation M3's sucking. Well, the E30 owners were all sitting there smug as ****.

The E30 M3 is exclusive not because it's an amazing car, but because it was produced in such a small quantity, that over the years became ultra desirable.

I still can't get on with the F82 rear end. The proportions do not line up with the aggressiveness of the front half of the car. The exact same goes for the M2. The only one that does look brilliant is the F80 M3. The arches are more pronounced, and the light cluster has the same aggressiveness as the front end styling. It just fits "M3" better as a whole, just like the pre E92 era once did.

I think the F80 is closer to the E46 than the F82 is (edit* in terms of style for the era).

I would have no big problem upgrading to an F80, but would always miss the sound and feel of the S54 6-8300rpm.
