BMW and M Power Owners

I'm currently trying to get one of the last production 520d M Sport Auto's through the business on an extremely cheap deal, unfortunately options are restrictive beyond paint etc but I can live with that.

Am I right in thinking there may be some good deals on stock F11's now that the new 5 Series has been announced, or is it a bit too early?

There are already good deals - some points to remember:

a) Available discounts have been creeping up as the F10/11 has aged. It's now at the point where there is almost 30% off list for some of the better models. There will be nothing like this discount for a while on the new model so already the F10/11 is much cheaper than a new/nearly new G30 will be

b) There is no touring yet and likely won't be for about a year. Saloon will hit the road in about March, Touring about September 2017.

So the rubber seals around the rear window have started to fail bigtime, lots of cracking and pieces starting to fall off.

Does anybody know if the e60 550i LCI had any special sensors or requirements for hte back? I know the windscreen has lots of sensors and ideally if you replace it you should replace the sensors to avoid residual glue... I'm trying to establish if I have to go to BMW again like I did for the front or if I can use one of the many shoddy auto window companies to fix the rubber.

Thoughts?

That's just perished rubber from rancid neglect! But I'm a bit dubious about the chips in the metal frame underneath it, has someone been trying to poke it off themselves? That doesn't look good...

If it's anything like the rubber trim that runs along the front windscreen, then it doesn't actually do anything to seal the glass in like the gooey strip between glass and frame. Autoglass should be able to replace this trim piece no problem.

The rear glass won't have anything special, you won't need to replace any sensors either as they are not fixed to the glass, they are modules that simply detach. The replacement windscreen has the correct "window" for them to sit in.

Having said that, someone might come along in a bit and go "all of the above is completely wrong" :p

Not sure why part of the metal below it is like that, those bits only came off last week during heavy rainfall. It wasn't in great condition when it was imported from Japan in to New Zealand, and we have significantly higher UV exposure here compared to the UK, but I was treating it as nice as I could but eventually all rubber goes brittle.

The glass itself is fine, I'm just trying to gauge if it will be a BMW job at $1K+ like for the new windscreen or if its simply a rubber seal replacement; so good to know that the rubber doesn't appear to do any real sealing between glass and chassis!

Haha sorry I always expect folk to be able to read my mind. It's a 2014 F31 M sport with auto. Reason for thinking of a change is that the car was the 'family wagon' but now the missus has a car we generally use that to haul the kids.
So now I have the chance to get something smaller, and the new 140s do look nice. Had a look at a TTS but can't seem to justify the big jump in monies.

Had an F31 M Sport for a week last year and absolutely loved it, it was only the 320d variant so pauper engine compared to the 330d. Having owned the F20 for a little while I'd stick with the F31 personally, it's simply a much more substantial car in almost every respect.

Having said that, if you're using your partners car as the family car, surely this is a great opportunity to have something fun for yourself? Can think of better ways to drop circa £30k for something that doesn't need to be the main wagon.

M140i, definitely, not that much smaller inside really, fantastic engine. 3 Series isn't exactly huge and kids will still fit easily enough inside a 1 series.

Just be prepared for 25mpg average. :D

Last night whilst driving (E93) I got a warning that the oil level was below minimum and to top up 1 litre at the next opportunity/immediately but during the same journey the reading adjusted to show the level was at the upper end between the min - max levels. Is this likely to be a sensor issue? I suppose I should check it the old fashioned way
