330d to an M140i. Would I regret it?

I personally did't like the M135i very much. Awesome engine, sounds isn't too bad but it's just a 1 series.

There's not much room for kids or kit (you can't fit an isofix seat and a front seat passenger in at the same time).

I'd stick with the 3.

I don't think I'd make the swap either, but that can't be quote right r.e an isofix seat surely? We can (just) fit a person in front isofix behind in the fiesta, the newer 1 series is definitely a bit bigger in the back than the Ford.

I should have put the word 'comfortably' in there. My wife is 5ft and she found it uncomfortable sitting in the passenger seat when we had the little one in the back.

I regularly have both kids (in Isofix seats) in my M135i with my wife in the front, and she's 5'6" and has plenty of room, and so do I. The kids don't complain either (my oldest loves me to use the "celebrater" :D)

I have no problems with ISOfix seat in my 135i either. Wife is 5f 6 and she has plenty of leg room. I'm 6f 3 and I wouldn't like to be sat behind me though, there's very little room.

Overall though I can't fault the car. The engine is amazing, and I can quite easily get 30mpg on long journeys. Far less when playing though :p

The car has completely faultless in the short time I've had it, well up until yesterday anyway. I was driving at night and it came up with a message about next service due so many thousand miles for now. But then the lights on the instrument cluster just went off for a few secs. It repeated this about 5 times and then all went back to normal. Very odd.

Having said that, if you're using your partners car as the family car, surely this is a great opportunity to have something fun for yourself? Can think of better ways to drop circa £30k for something that doesn't need to be the main wagon.
I was looking at older Porsches (Cayman or S) but the cost of ownership and servicing seems a bit crazy by the sounds.

What makes you think that?

You can warranty them til they're 15 years old now... so that takes any scary bills like engine replacements out of the equation.

General servicing is more expensive that cheaper brands... but it's not horrendous if you consider you're servicing £30k worth of car. Should average less than a grand a year easily.

So expect £1500/year for servicing and warranty and you're good to go...

Exactly, if you listened to all of the horror stories online you'd end up not buying any car.

That's not to say that the owners forums can't be a useful resource, but take everything with a pinch of salt.

Besides, what you'll spend on running costs over and above that of a new or newish M135i will probabably be dwarfed by the difference in depreciation of a used Porsche.

At up to £30k you'll be looking at Cayman with the newer range of engines which don't have the 'common' failure points of the earlier ones, but the same can't be said for a 911 at that budget.

I got a 2011 Cayman S a couple of months ago, upgrading from my Z4 3.0si. Warranty quotes I got for extending mine next year are £900 for 1 year and £1500 for 2 years, I think a new policy will be a little more, then servicing is £4/500 for minor/major services at 2 year or 20k mile intervals.

Nice, thanks for the info. Enjoy the new ride ;)

F10 people, what are the opinions on Aluminium Hexagon trim vs Fine Brushed? I'm definitely leaning towards the hexagon as it's darker and feels less 'cold' than the brushed. Unfortunately the wood is a no-go.

Why is the wood a no go? I've got the dark wood in mine and is looks fantastic.

I have Harmon Kardon in mine but my last one had the standard one. The standard one is fine, better than the crap standard ones in the E39 but HK is better.

Surely you will spec M Sport Plus which will give you the HK?

It doesn't look to be a possibility unfortunately, the main thing I'd want from it are the wheels which could be added at a cost further down the line. I'll see how the 18's go.
