As with everything in life, everyones opinions are going to differ.

I have Oyster and hex trim with black carpets and i love my interior.

Which nav screen is that? Doesn't look as wide as the 10 inch pro nav... Or is it just the pre-facelift surround that's giving it a smaller impression?

Picked up a late 2014 X5 40d Msport (instead of the 6 GC's I was looking at), overall very impressed, definitely a huge improvement upon the interior of the E71 X6 I had, which I loved and was faultless, but this does feel just 'better'.

500 miles later over the last two days and I'm 100% on my decision of this, such a nice place to be on a drive and will handle all the stuff I need to lug in it with ease.

I want a X5 now, me and my mate swapped cars for the weekend so i have been using a RRS 4.4. Proper nice place to be in and dont feel like my knees are going to snap everytime i go to sit in the car.

Mrs bought a cassatto pushchair thing which is big, ready for are babys arrival and it doesnt fit in my car. I have to put the frame across the back seats and and top bit in the boot, then there is no room in the back for lewis lol.

With the RRS the pushchair gets lost in boot. Really ideal but i prefer the looks of the X5.

What i can afford though only gets me a 07-08 3.0d with 90k+ miles. Reckon this is a bad idea or not? I dont mind bills but i dont want a money pit.

Plus, it's really nowhere near the same league as the X5 for boot space.

I did look at an X5 a year or so ago, but there was little advantage in the luggage capacity over the 5 series. Sure, it may have more litres, but usable space wasn't much better.

To be fair, I think the RRS is better in this regard than the X5 too though. But I didn't really have a close look at the RRS, as if I were to be buying a RR, it would have to be the big one really. Although I do believe the RRS can have 7 seats, so is more practical.

Then again, I guess you're looking at the older RRS, in which case, the Discovery is the better buy really.

2011 then, whenever the newer model came in.

They are probably over budget, they are more expensive than older X5s.

They are decent though.

Very few SUVs have more useable luggage space than a 5 Series touring though, especially the X5 which is essentially a 5 series touring on stilts.

There is a 7 seat option for the X5 too btw.

Yeah, I did look at one with the 7 seat option. It's more of a 5 + 2 than a full 7 seats though. Same as the RRS really, but the Disco is a proper 7 seater.

But the Discovery blows the 5 series away with luggage space, as does, obviously, the FFRR.

My point was really no NEED to go for the X5 for the luggage space. The 5 series does the same, without the need for all that extra weight, and reduced fuel economy. If you really need the extra luggage space, some other options may be preferable. I did fancy the X5 initially, but seeing how I wasn't gaining anything in the boot, I decided it wasn't worth the switch from the 5 series really.
