BMW and M Power Owners

I had a borrowed F10 520d auto (in crispy white) last week for a trip to the North while the trains were on strike. Did the trip from the Sussex coast to Leeds in just over 5hrs and upon arrival I stepped out of it feeling like I'd been sat in an armchair as opposed to driving. Sooooo comfortable. I've never really had a thing for BMWs (apart from the Z4) but now I want one.

The iDrive thingy was easy to use and worked really well; satnav and pairing with my iPhone were faultless. The auto box was smooth and responsive. The seats were comfy and supportive.

Excuse me while I go cry in a corner and try not to think about what the journey would have been like in my 13 year old Focus :(

Steedie you need to drive a hybrid mate, it's like the same step up in smoothness all over again ;). Coasting is a great feature, there are a few roads on my commute that I only need a quick burst to get up to NSL at the start and I can roll the rest!

My average has dropped a bit now it's dark and cold, even with LED lights and preconditioning my commute is down to ~110mpg from ~135mpg.

Do you guys use the eco mode around town? I only use it for motorway miles and in all honesty, like to pop into sport mode more often than not...not really feeling the drive in comfort mode. Can't put my finger on it but it just doesn't seem smooth enough.

I almost always used it. Since most of my driving was through necessity, rather than for enjoyment, I mostly just had it on. If I was driving because I had to, I might as well save a little on fuel. Switching to sport to overtake or something if required.

If I was on my own, and out for having a bit of fun, then obviously sport mode was engaged. Comfort rarely ever got a look in though.

Comfort rarely ever got a look in though.

Which is bizarre as my car is probably in Comfort 99% of the time it isn't on the Motorway. For a start it's the default mode, so surely switching to another all the time got tiresome.

Off the Motorway eco-pro mode gets annoying so the car might as well be in Comfort mode. Sport mode rarely ever gets used because it just sits there in too high a gear ready for instant response the second you touch the throttle. Which means mid-hoon, great, but normal driving?

The one thing I do never, ever use bizarrely is the paddles...

I just find I never need them - Sport mode plus foot down provides you with instant acceleration to the point where I the paddles just seem pointless.

Got to agree with that. On the odd occasion I did decide to use them it became quickly apparent that all I was doing was changing too quickly just to stop it auto changing. But I did like them much better than the setup on my e91 when I did use them.

I just got used to switching it to eco pro mode when starting the car. It quickly was no longer a chore. To be fair, it's not like I couldn't overtake either in eco pro either. The car wasn't exactly slow, and if I was a couple mpg better off because of it, then all the better. The car wasn't bought for hoofing around and instant throttle response. It was bought to ship my kids and their stuff around smoothly, and eco pro mode didn't take away anything from that.

Don't you mean too low a gear, so the rpm is high?

Just got rid of my Z4 coupe and am driving around in my leased zetec s until it goes back next April. However the allure of a new car means I'm looking already.

Anyone driven a 435i? Just wondering if buying one without the adaptive suspension is a silly idea or its ok without it? Unfortunately my local dealer doesn't have one in stock to test drive.

I'm still on the lookout for a 5 series.
Love the brown leather interior, but I have only found one car in my price range that comes with it. It doesn't have sat nav though, which I would prefer.
Will keep looking for the right one.

You will likely never find a nice one with that colour interior.

Almost every used 5 Series M Sport is:

a) Either Carbon Black or Alpine White
b) A 520d
c) Has little in the way of spec

Much annoyance.

It is a weird one this. I can't drive 100 miles in my A4 without wanting to fall asleep behind the wheel but i drove/was a passenger in an F10 all around the country for a month solid and felt absolutely fine.

That's because A4's are cack.
