After much help (Abuse) from Fox I'm now joining the BMW owners club.

I have to be honest and say I was blown away by how good the engine and gearbox combo was. It's hard to understand why anyone would pick a different car in this segment for the economy and performance it offers.

Edit - I've found the options sheet so I'll add that in:

F31 330D M Sport Auto - December 2013 (63) Car with 28k miles in Estoril Blue with Black Leather
Media Package - Professional
Reversing Assist Camera
19" M-Star Style 403M
Front Seat Heating
Sun Protection Glass
Exterior Folding Mirrors with Anti Dazzle
Electric Fornt Seats with Driver Memory
Visibility package

Fine manly choice, wanna meet up to compare crimping techniques?

<3

Glad you got a stubby (aerial!)

Haha, sounds like it needs to be done :D:p.

Yeah, the previous owner did the mod which is good.

Very nice alx - looks like a lovely example. Nice driveway too.

Thanks - it's actually my parents drive, drove it up to Aberdeen from near Reading this weekend!

I went to look at my friend's e46 325i again today to give it a final once over and check for intake leaks (P0174 error seen last time) only to find that it's now showing P0171 and whilst it turns over and drives it doesn't like to idle all of the time. Idle is around 700 rpm when it does manage to hold.

As I haven't purchased it yet I'm going to price up a few (genuine) parts before making a decision.

Obviously there could be a number of issues but I'm going to see how much the following come to:

camshaft sensor
crankshaft sensor
MAF
fuel pump

I previously talked on here about issues which could keep me at the side of the road and this is certainly one of them...

Did you check the intake system for leaks? It can be the root cause of an awful lot on the M54. The rubber is all going to be pretty old now so there's a good chance this is causing at least some of the problem.

It's been apart recently and no obviously cracks were seen and we sprayed it with carb cleaner whilst it was idling, no noticeable changes were evident.

Also, the first time we started it up it was fine, it only got a bit funny after it warmed up - apparently this suggests a sensor could be failing when it gets up to temp.

I have a friend who has INPA - might hook that up to it.

If you are sure you have checked ALL of the intake boots for splits, then MAF and FP are the next most likely. I remember on my 330ci, the top elbow joint was completely split and this appears to be a common problem. The lower elbow boot also appears to be a common failure point.

You can get a second hand FP from eBay for about £25 and just buy a brand new MAF from ECP and put it in there to test. If it works, you can keep it, if it doesn't - return it. Might also be worth getting the throttle body out and having a look.

Hey all, I know of a nice Z4 2.5 SE, 37000 miles being sold by owner because he is too tall and it gives him a bad back. Great condition, metallic blue, cream leather. 2008 plate so the fabric hood. Sat Nav, Auto Gearbox and couple of other extras. Everything works fine, hood etc.
What price would you expect to pay? I was looking at about £7000 or thereabouts.

I always wanted one of these. I have a 535D F11 MSport as my "main" car but want to have something for a bit of fun and also to keep heavy business mileage off of my 535D.

Thoughts guys? Areas that go wrong?
