BMW and M Power Owners

On the subject of tacky M Performance stick on bits from a few pages ago... saw this article this morning for parts for the G30 5 series:

Have to say, it completely ruins the image of the 5 series for me. Always admired the F10, it exudes a classy image and thought it was the best looking BMW for some time. Can't say I've seen one ruined by stick on tat either, unlike the F30 3 series. Were M Performance bits not available on the F10? The power and brake upgrade options are ok, though arguably still pointless.

That looks terrible in that form. However I think it would look decent without the strips and black. If it was colour coded better. Standard 5 series is incredibly bland looking.

Most of the M Performance styling is for M Sport models so it won't fit a standard one anyway...

The bits you think would look decent are probably the standard M Sport kit anyway :D

My M135i is due a service so I booked it in last week to be dropped off this evening with BMW, and eventually serviced tomorrow throughout the day.

I told them the computer says it needs an oil service, thinking it was going to be £152.00 as per BMW's website. I dropped my car off and the service member of staff didn't advise me of how much it was going to be (I assumed £152.00 as that was all the computer was saying).

Since getting home they've called and advised it needs a major service, at £560.00. This includes the engine oil service with microfilter, air filter and spark plugs.

A bit of backstory. Bought the car used at 35,000 miles in March this year, I was told it had just had a service (it's second one). I can only vaguely remember what was done, but my recollection was that the first service was done around two years/20,000 miles in, and the second service done in March 2016 at 35,000 miles (i.e. when I bought it from Sytner BMW). Current mileage 43,000.

I understand these cars are condition based servicing and don't necessarily follow the exact guidelines of old, however does this sound right? I'd have assumed the service Sytner did in March this year to be the "main" one, bearing in mind it was then nearing 3 years of age and had some 35,000 miles completed.

Car is a June 2013 model with no service pack (an obvious point I guess).

Time to shut up and pay? The staff member dealing with my car had gone home when I called back but the person I did get through to was also adamant it needed the major service.

Can you list every service it's had so far and at which mileage? Seems a bit odd currently. All I can think of is that the last service was just the vehicle check and now it's due it's second oil service which is indeed major and does include all that extra stuff.

They Let random people test drive there cars and then want to sell them as brand new..

No, they don't - they'll be sold as pre-registered cars not brand new cars. The mileage is obviously there to see for any potential buyer.

You can't take brand new unregistered cars out for a test drive.

Some dealers do let you drive them, we took out an unregistered Countryman JCW for a test drive on trade plates with 9 miles on the clock. I was surprised as we also wanted to put our son's pram & baby seat in it to see how much space was left.

Just off the phone from Sytner, where I initially bought the car, and they've confirmed the following;

First service was done in Feb 2015 at 22,000 miles. Standard oil service.

Second service was done in March 2016 at 37,000, this was a simple brake fluid change as it was going to be due in 3 months time (i.e. June 2016, the three year anniversary date of the car), out of their AUC guidelines.

Thusly, this is technically it's second proper service and therefore it is the major one.

Oh well...

I've asked if I can supply my own parts, anyone know what price I should be going for 'Engine oil with microfilter, air filter and spark plugs'?

They haven't said I can or can't yet.

Haggled the service down from £560 to £400 with BMW after I told them I'd like to supply my own parts.

That £400 is inclusive of their parts. Bit miffed I had to haggle with a car dealership for something as routine as servicing, figured you're past that once you buy the car but evidently not.

Good result all the same. :)

My second service will be due in ~1 month...makes the £550 I paid for the service pack when I bought the car seem reasonable value even though I've only got two years servicing out of it.

I bought mine used and wasn't aware I could buy a service pack on an AUC vehicle, as BMW didn't make me aware of this. I think you only get 60 days.

To be honest it's likely to be the last time I get the car serviced as it's good for another 20,000 miles, which for me is circa two years.
