So I've just had a test drive in a BMW i8. It was lovely. The £110K price is a bit of a shocker, of course, but I see that 2016 models are much cheaper. Only £60K. :) So clue me in!

I don't do many miles in a year - 3k - 5k.

Enjoy!!

"Boasting a turbocharged three-cylinder engine, which accelerates from 0 to 62mph in just 4.4 seconds" - do you know (or anyone else) if the 4.4 comes purely from the engine? Or is it assisted with electric to help it get there?

It’s a plug in hybrid with a relatively large battery for a hybrid so the engine specs are a bit deceptive. Outside of the price it’s well reviewed.

It’s built mostly from composite like the i3.

It also has configurable cabin engine sounds to make up for the 3 cylinder. :D

There is nothing wrong with the i8 if that's what floats your boat, you just have to remember it will come with £100k car sized bills if it breaks even though it sips fuel like eco hatch back.

You are really looking at Porsche 911 for a direct comparison on performance and form factor. Or if its the styling your after then you only really have Ferrari or Lambo's to go to.

That is always the issue with cars priced that highly (unless it's something collectable or rare). Depreciation hits hard after a point as people paying half that or less won't want to be risking 100k+ car bills.

Will it? It's full of standard BMW stuff not supercar stuff. The engine is out of a Mini Cooper, the electronics system is 5 Series...

Which other cars should I consider?

Depends on what you're looking for.

I think the i8 is vile... although I'll give it good handling. For it's spec sheet... it's is technically impressive... good weight for such a vehicle especially.

At £60k... you'll have a lot more fun in an M2 or M4 and have plenty of change for the extra fuel spend.

You could get a really nice 997.2 911 C2S or C4S...
