I always thought the i8 was a marketing exercise and tech demo rather than being considered a serious contender for volume sales.

BMW will always be able to say they led the industry with it as a mainstream manufacturer.

@Quartz if you really want one and can happily buy without buyers remorse then go for it.

This is one of those irrational purchases against the competition as @Lashout_UK has eluded too. Doesn't mean it's a bad idea though.

At that price, it WAS a tech demo really. It's a hybrid but a pointless one. You'll never save anything by buying it over something costing far less with similar performance.

How is being able to out-accelerate most cars on the road with a little 3 cylinder pointless?

You either 'get' the i8 or you don't. If you get it, there is nothing else quite like it.
