Boeing 777 shot down

Russian tv have no shame, there showing the Malaysia Airlines flight #MH17 crash on there tv, showing bodies in the wreckage and showing passports of the dead showing there name n faces

Are airlines flying over these trouble spots? Ukraine, Palestine etc. I'd hope that airlines route around it?

They were until this. Airlines from all over the world have been tweeting for the past couple of hours that they will now stop flying over Ukraine. Shame it takes something like this to make that happen though.

BBC looks correct. Although as it stands at the moment Russia have taken it. I can't see it staying that way though. Today's event will only escalate things.

Crimea will remain Russian unless we have a nuclear war over it, if we do this I'll be even more peed off with the paedos in power.

Probably going to get flamed for this, but IMO it's the airlines fault plain and simple.

They sent a commercial flight over a war zone, a war zone where the controlling rebels had long since declared a no fly zone, and where the controlling rebels are known to have SAM systems capable of downing high altitude aircraft (and wouldn't be able to distinguish between commercial/military flight's at that altitude).

I can't imagine many airlines tick the "missile lock detection" box on the options sheet to be honest.

IIRC it's just DHL? (after they lost a cargo plane to a MANPAD in Iraq).

The issue is that this type of situation has never happened in recent history, Ukraine is former USSR, the country is still full of stuff that is still VERY formidable to this day and it is in both loyalist/rebel hands. It's simply not something airliners have had to deal with before.
