Boeing 777 shot down

Maybe we should wait for a proper and impartial investigation first??

Yes it could be the separatists(probably is),but remember the Ukranian military shot down a Russian airliner in 2001 with an errant S200 missile during a live fire exercise.

Well... Of course.

Okay perhaps my post should have said whoever is responsible. Either way such a loss of innocent lives. Because apparently a passenger plane looks like a military plane :/

Many many countries will be affected by this. :( I feel so sad for those affected.

It's just so unbelievable to think that a plane full of innocent people going home or on holiday has been shot down. What the ****? Such an awful world we live in. :(

It's quite clear now. The rebels had the weaponry (as shown by themselves) and they had already taken down 2 planes in the area in the past days. Their Russian born "commander" brags about the attack minutes before the news storm starts. What a horrible, senseless tragedy.

Putin carries half of the guilt.

Will we get one though? Pro-Russian separatists were quick on the scene and according to twitter have found the black box and sent it back to Moscow.

Indeed. Some poor bugger posted a picture of the plane on his Facebook page a few hours before him and his family went on holiday. His Facebook page went from people wishing them a fantastic holiday to absolute heartbreak in a matter of minutes :(

Interfax news agency says pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine say they have found "black box" flight recorder from flight #MH17

Does this mean we are going to hear an altered series of events seeing as they are being held as the most likely culprit and now have the black box. Surely they don't have the resources to properly work with that black box...

Do if it's sent to Russia.

To be honest when I look up and see a plane at that height all I see is a vapour trial.

Be honest, if you were waging a civil war and repeatedly being attacked by your enemies air force then one day you detected a plane in your airspace (a designated no fly zone) would your first thought be that it was military or that some airline had decided to cut costs by routing a 777 over your no fly zone?

19:00: A tweet (in Russian) from a key Twitter account used by pro-Russian separatists, in which they claim to have captured a Buk surface-to-air missile system, has now been deleted, BBC Monitoring observes. Ukrainians say the Malaysian plane could have been downed with a Buk, but pro-Russian rebels have now denied they have it.

Is there any more information on this?

They've been reported as saying they'll be sending it to the Russians.

Whatever happened, whether a missile or not and regardless of who is to blame, RIP to all those onboard... Young old and children.

what resources, a computer?

black boxes aren't exactly complicated they're an ssd in a really really good case.

not sure what you expect to hear though, maybe a few seconds before impact a proximity warning but probably just normal chatter then static.

Sadly like in the Iran Air and KAL 007 incidents the same excuses were made for the incompetence of the people involved!

Edit!!

But honestly why were commericial airliners even allowed to fly over the area??

IIRC only the USA and France can, that's why boxes from US airliners always go back to the states for decoding (unless the investigating country is non-US friendly then they go to France).

Tell you what the way news is reported you can make viewers subconsciously believe just about anything, switching between rt and sky news and you get a completely different angle.

Can the rebels even operate sophisticated equipment like the BUK system? Clearly your average rebel wouldn't have a clue.

they're irregular troops, not ****ing monkeys.

who do you think operates our military equipment, highly trained PHD graduates or the guys who typically didn't do all that great at their gcses?

I'm not jumping the gun myself
So it isn't confirmed as shot down?
Is tit for tat as to who did it

Only thing I'm sure about us it is a mistake
I'm not one for conspiracy theories so meh on that

Wait and see
