Boeing 777 shot down

Pray tell how do you knock Russia back to the stone age without killing all life in western Europe, if you want to commit suicide do it in a dark corner by yourself and leave my family out of it, ta.

So we should let anyone with nuclear warheads just do as they wish right?

Sorry to say but yours or my family are pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

Not that I'm saying Russia are to blame for this.

Rebels/separatists/freedom fighters manage to find and deliver MH17's black boxes to Malaysian authorities, before Kiev even releases their air traffic control recordings of communications with the flight, which is the far simpler job to do. The recordings remain in possession of Ukraine's security services, so far undisclosed.

Outrageous. Clearly, the rebels and Putin must do far more. ;)

Trouble is they have to try and fiddle the evidence without Russia proving they did so, that's no easy task even with the help of the Usa.

Or try some other method of persuasion, tbf I don't give a **** about the Ukraine or anywhere else if getting obliterated is my option of objecting.

Nuclear armed nations don't lose wars! At worst they draw in MAD.

As long as we live in a democracy my family and their safety is pretty darn important actually.

and in the grand scheme of things 300 people on a plane are also insignificant so not worth destroying countless other peoples lives over.

I think people are a little paranoid if they think some tougher sanctions against them means they'll start firing nukes. The Cold War was far greater than any of this and they refrained then, Putin cares too greatly about riding shirtless on his horse than wanting to risk being nuked himself.

Again why does imposing tougher sanctions mean nukes will be fired?

The MH17 thing is only a tiny episode in Russia's current behavior (if they are at fault, and it does look the most likeliest), but do you just let Putin invade and take over all it's past colonies under a 'Pro-Russian rebel' banner?

Also, i dont if you've been told, russia has 6500 active nuclear warheads on board advanced ICBM's, you do are aware it will retaliate if the **** hits the fan and west attacks it, now dont you?

I did say in a previous post that they ofc could make a complete mess of things during there downfall.

Anyways it is in no ones interest to start a nuclear war. It is just a overhang that people say 'what if'. Russia don't want and can't afford an all out war, the west don't want, but could afford a war... tighter sanctions will be put in place but i don't think they will have the desired affect.

Slinging threats at someone like Putin don't work either. It's a hairy and complex situation, but it's probably going to take something big to straighten out.

My statement you initially quoted was in response to a statement that we should knock Russia back to the stone age, now I've read about scalar weapons but leaving their potential aside nukes are the only device I know of capable of knocking Russia back to the stone age.

How many people is a significant number where we need to do something?

You feel that need not me, so buy a ******* ticket to The Ukraine get an AK and go kill someone yourself leave me out of it.

In fact if you go and provide proof I'll buy you a parka and balaclava in case the war isn't over by xmas.

On what basis do you say the West can afford a war and Russia can't? Don't forget the US was on the brink of a shutdown last year over the budget deficit. A war will just make the banks and the arms manufacturers richer and send the countries involved further into debt.

You are right that threats are very unlikely to work against Putin; back the Russian bear into a corner and he will come out fighting. Hopefully further sanctions will help to put enough pressure on Putin from his billionaire buddies to make some changes but don't bank on it if they are as weak as the ones currently imposed - some travel bans and asset freezes on persons with their money outside of the EU (no way it's in Cypriot banks any more after last year's banking crisis) and no desire to travel to Europe does nothing except allow the EU and US to claim to be doing something to help Ukraine. It's all posturing.

Anyway, we'll see by Thursday if the new sanctions have any teeth. It seems likely they will as the EU have categorically decided that Russia is to blame already but the ultimate reliance on Russian oil & gas may cause certain nations to cause them to be watered down. Effectively it Cameron a right to be as loud and bullish as he likes knowing that he can blame the likes of Germany for watering down the sanctions due to their reliance on oil and trade with Russia.

The problem is we also rely on Russia for their natural resources.

And Russia relies on Europe to buy their natural resources. They've invested a lot of money in gas pipelines to the EU, if the flow stops that investment becomes a loss. It can be stopped too - most EU nations that rely on Russian gas have built significant storage capabilities because it was identified years ago that there was a threat to this supply. Yes I'm aware that Russia and China have recently done a deal to supply gas to China, but that'll take years to get going and one of the last things Russia wants is one powerful customer who won't be bullied.

I don't see how his alleged involvement in a plane bombing 23 years earlier gave us course to destabilise his country and murder him

"We" didn't destabilise his country and murder him - his own people did that (and frankly I don't blame them. "We" saw an opportunity to get rid of him and took it - payback's a *****.

Can someone tell me whats going on, I don't watch/read/listen to the news all I know is a plane got shot down in Ukraine and all the passangers died. So why has everything kicked off then?

FFS bakes - how do you go through life happy not knowing what's going on in the world? A quick look at the BBC News Front Page would be a good place to start :)

Passenger plane brought down over Ukraine by surface to air missile, 298 souls perished. Y says X did it, X says Y did it, W says X did it, V has said Y did it and asked W to provide proof X did it.

X probably bid it!

BBC News would be a grim place to start!

Edit: Actually, just reading that again... How do people go through life happy knowing what is going on in the world? It's a total dump of corruption and evil. British media isn't exactly great either, they love a good disaster, it's awesome to get on the experts and speculate about everything! YAAAY!

Bakes has the right idea, best to just give it a miss.
