Borderlands 3

Yep, lads, if you claim free GTA V on Epic Games, you get a £10 off voucher towards your next purchase. You can then get yourself BL3 for £14.99. I'm still on the fence, keep hearing massively mixed reactions.

I'm up to level 38 on my first play through and currently and I would say that if you liked any of the previous Borderlands games then go for it. Admittedly the main villains are a bit naff compared to the Handsome Jack story, but the game looks and plays great and there seems to be loads of content. I went for the Super Deluxe version to get the season pass included (haven't played any of the extras yet though) in the previous Epic sale and £10 coupon offer.

Yeah, that's what I'm hearing, the game play is actually a step up, apparently, gunplay is great, lots of crazy guns etc. And the main protagonists are supposed to be not so good. What really nagged me in previous games was the UI though, then menu interface, the inventory, map etc. They were all really naff and annoying to use. I take it there's not much change in that respect?

I love BL games though, overall, just unsure whether this one will grab me.

Dont even need to claim GTAV , just have an Epic account and you can claim the £10 off voucher.

There has been an improvement with inventory management as items are now given a score (not just a cash value) so deciding what to sell and what to keep is a lot quicker if you let that be your guide. I always sell all white and green items anyway unless they are required for a mission. Fast travel is also more flexible than before.

thanks, that actually helps. I'll look at a couple of streams tonight to decide.

Grabbed BL3 on the Epic Sale £14.99 and then I had paypal give me another £5 off because I am one of their first 5000 Paypal credit members or something. Got BL3 for £9.99, almost finished downloading. I know what I'm playing this afternoon...

Indeed, they too decided to add the lazy item “score”, it’s for the new generation who can’t be bothered to work it out and need to be told by a number rating, it needs dumbing down for some. Kinda like The Division as well.

One of the best things is you can mark your fav guns so you cant accidentally delete them and watch them disappear. Yes there is a buy back option but I've found your fav gun you accidentally sold disappears from the buy back option!

Completed the Hemlock DLC found it a bit boring. Handsome Jack was by far the best. Now back to the main story again on Athenas.

How are people finding the multiplayer lag/latency?

If I play with 2 of my mates, it's fine, regardless of who hosts. If the other mate plays, regardless of who hosts I get terrible latency, rubber-band all over. Problem is if I host, two of the others get poor performance. Which doesn't make sense, as it's fine in every other game we play, and it's fine if there are only 3 of us. A quick Google suggests this isn't uncommon but it's ruining the game for me.

Anyone else suffer from this? Any suggestions?

if the host doesn't have good upload speed then your session will be laggy

Are people with different versions of the game still able to participate in the same co-op play instances/multiplayer?

By different versions I mean base game and expansion DLC.

Cheers

This is much better on PC than PS4. I'm having to play at 1080p with a 4K HUD as the jump between 50% and 75% resolution scale is too big. But it's wonderful that there's no hitching in the UI!

This is free to play on Steam for 6 days starting today (Thursday). 81GB download. *gulp*
I see I did miss the obvious place to look. There's nothing, so far, for me to distinguish this from the others, apart from the climbing... and that's just opened up a whole new range of 'darn, I know I can get up there but keep missing' opportunities, which isn't necessarily a good thing. But it runs smoothly at 1280x720 on my 960m laptop (now I've updated the drivers and its gone through a shader optimising cycle) and it definitely scratches the Borderlands itch.

The new weapon score isn't helping me avoid scratching my head every time something shiny drops though! I nearly always end up selling the cheapest kit, which is often not a good tactic. But more shininess will be along very shortly. :-)

I've promised myself I won't weaken and buy until the GOTY is in my cheapskate gamer's price range, but I'm struggling to get into good eating habits and lose some covid weight at the moment, and it always helps to have a new distraction to lose myself in instead of losing myself in the kitchen. So the 'Borderlands not biscuits' clause may see me weaken. I had Witcher 3 down to fill that role, but I've never managed to get lost in a Witcher game the way I can in a loot game like Borderlands or Diablo 3.

It seems like now is a good time to play through it as they have an event on with increased loot drops. I've got about 30 legendary items and I'm only level 17 on the second planet!

In a moment of weakness I forked out £42 for the DLC version last night. Didn't play it and felt buyer's remorse this morning... apart from my iRacing insanity period I've been a bargain basement gamer, several years behind the latest releases, for a very long time. I paid £8.74 for Borderlands2 GOTY, which works out at about, er... good grief, Steam thinks I have 1013 hours in BL2! I hope that includes all the hours I had it paused while doing other things over the last 6 years.

My refund request has, probably quite rightly, been refused because of the time spent on the free period. It's not Steam's fault I'm a skinflint inclined to deny developers a decent reward for their efforts. So it looks like I have to stick to my Borderlands diet now! I just have to convince my skinflint Bargain Brain that I'd happily pay £42 to lose the stone or so I need to get comfortable in my clothes again. Not buying £42's worth of junk in the next month will be a good start, and my ageing body will thank me. And my belt. Not sure my fingers will though. So much scrolling through my backpack trying to choose weapons to dump awaits me! :-)
