It depends, I've often found that keys used during the leveling process are quite useful as they speed things up, particularly when you're on the first character. Furthermore, at max level, you're in the "end game" and you must farm unique items, the purples found with keys just don't cut it anymore.

I just use them randomly, if you follow Randy Pitchford on twitter you will get way too many codes to use when you hit max, I had 30 at one point in BL2.

Yeah I'd spend them randomly.

Maybe use one every 5 or 10 levels if you didn't find a good gun, and it'll carry you to level 50, you can also store them to use on an alt.

Cool if you can get them plentiful I'll spend them every few levels when I feel I need an upgrade.

If you set your profile to read only (in the games folder) you can grind all your keys, re-set your profile back and you still have your keys

We did that in BL2...also using the Orcz site, at one point I had 150 keys on my BL2 2nd character

Isn't that a bit of an exploit though? Can't imagine it's fun having unlimited of them.
