Borderlands

You're level 27 now and not had a single legendary (orange) drop yet? It's been aeons since I played Borderlands 1 that I can't remember anything about the gun drops. I know I always used a Maliwan Hellfire and nothing else. I think I am going to fire it up and have a good old play again.
Had a couple Orange but they were of so low level that what I had was of better quality. Got a couple purple and some blue. My sniper rifle is a white one though, but it one shoots them most of the time, does over 300 damage per shoot, but is a bit on the slow side for next shoot. it is all good fun though, trying to find something better then what one have. Always does a run through certain crate locations.
Re-quoted the above for a laugh. :p

Ok, so played some more this morning and to my surprise I got a really good Legendary drop, a 4x Fire chance Blue Volcano that does 262 damage. The sniper I had is the above, white text one, lvl 21 and did 314 damage. Compared shooting with them against some bandits and liked the Legendary better so even if less damage I sold the other. Did some quests, including the Krom Canyon one and killed him and his machinegun with the rifle, 4 shoots from the entrance and Krom was toasted.

Went to hand it in over at Rust Commons West and in that location there is some relatively easy access red chests so thought I go and check them:

Yes, I got a levelled sniper rifle that does a fair bit more damage then the Legendary. :( Still carrying both though, I do like the fiery effect that the Legendary gives but with the damage being so much more on the Fearsome Sniper I have a felling that one is much better to use. Ahh well... lol :p

Now, I also have a question, if anyone might be able to help me understand this one:

NdNvcaG.jpg

Both of the revolvers are doing 7x the mentioned damage, so by that the lvl 22 is better, but that one also shows it doing -61% Damage and that's what I am wondering over. Does it mean it actually does less damage then the lvl 16 then ? Or is everything already calculated into the Damage, Accuracy and Fire Rate and what says in the box under that is just added flavour ??

that sniper rifle is the best legendary sniper in the game imo. generally you'll find higher rarity will punch above the effectiveness of a few levels, although this effect is more noticable the higher the level you are (ie that you're not catching up in level to your armoury quite so quickly)

as a note- maliwan weapons always look like they do poor actual damage, but you need to factor in the elemental effect and that one is a powerful fire effect (hence the cool firey explosion)

borderlands 2 fixed this confusion by actually stating the damage numbers and chance as opposed to the x1, x2 etc (the volcano is x4) which is sort of just a class damage rank for the elemental effect (you may notice elemental guns not from maliwan tend to have only x1 or x2 elemental damage, but higher base damage to account for it)

it gets really confusing when it comes to trying to work out exactly how much death a given gun is putting out (this applies to the revolvers too), personally i advise just shooting a few bad guys and keeping the one that "feels" more deadly.

again in bl2 they gave you a handy firing range to shoot at where you could pay attention to the damage numbers you were doing.

A quick read of the wiki and r/borderlands subreddit suggests that the -61% damage is already accounted for in the stated damage value on the item card.

That's a definite positive in BL2 - far easy to understand item cards! :)

Thanks ! I am keeping the Legendary Rifle, even so more now after your reply that you think it is one of the best sniper rifles. :) And thank you for the explanation about Maliwan weapons, it come in hand earlier, so to speak. :p (See spoiler below). Also, much appreciated about the info for BL2, I hope I remember the fire range when I play the game sometime in the future. :)

Oppsi.. should have thought of using google and found the answer myself so thank you very much ! :o And good to know about BL2 is better made that way, be less confusing once I get to play it.

Now though, it all become "irrelevant" in the manner as to which revolver to keep, since I played a bit more after I asked and found this gem, which I am now keeping, even if the damage is lower then the other two that had a 7x multiplier added, but I sort of like the fiery explosions it making. :o :p

all legendaries eventually get overshadowed by better leveled guns, but can generally punch above their level class.

of course the second game has a few tweaks (ie what was wrong in the first one) fixed, and then introduces new bugs lol.

on a different note spoiler alert (well, not plot breaking really)
just got to son of crawmerax and had to laugh at the dialogue about the "ledge" glitch, until proceeding to the boss fight and getting utterly owned because there was no ledge :(

I think you missed the joke. There was a ledge in the original Borderlands Crawmerax fight. :p And the devs wised up in BL2..

yeah, i know about the original ledge, what spoiled it was the lack thereof this time round. tbf, playing solo it's basically impossible to fight these bosses especially when they don't have ads, hell as mordecai i couldn't even reach the ledge before being slaughtered.

my siren build is weirdly specific in its focus now, a lone enemy is hard, but a group of 10 of the same enemy=total annihilation in seconds.

currently i'm starting a gaige build, gonna be interesting to see how it pans out but it looks already like she'd be much stronger against single opponents once leveled up a bit. think i might use shotguns a bit more too

Just means your build/gear/strategy is wrong :p Look on youtube to see how easy the pros make it look!

quite possible, i'm also not the greatest at fps, my build was mostly focused on doing damage with the phaselock, and using moxxi's guns for healing. with groups of enemies they get drawn together and then it's the legendary lightning bolt grenade which tears through a tightly packed group (there's likely better options for actual damage, but they don't have infinite ammo)

my legendary class mod suits this strat quite well, as it gives me boosts to the length, cooldown and fire damage of phase lock, alongside boosts to the only 2 skills i have in the harmony tree that give healing and fire rate with phase lock. a boss with ad's is easy as you use the phase lock to distract the boss from killing you whilst doing the obligatory shooting them in the face.

we'll have to see how this gaige build pans out, but it l suspect it might be a bit better all round, rather than being so specifically crowd focused.

Darn, this game can drive you nuts. So many different weapons or other items that keeps popping up. Had a Legendary Repeater Pistol, lvl 22 TMP Mean Thanatos, 63 damage and 64 bullets in the clip. It's like a small mini gun, fires so fast. Then from a quest I'm getting another Repeater Pistol, only green in color but the gun is called The Dove and has an endless amount of ammunition, never runs out. Shoots a bit slower though, but about same damage.

Then back to my revolver mess from yesterday, ditched the others and kept the Burning Law as mentioned. Got a message that Crazy Earl had a quest for me so went there, had to kill those skags... again... and one of them drops a Legendary Revolver EQ1 Raw Equalizer, does 178 damage compared to the Burning Law at 127 (but with the fire effect they probably equal). The difference though is the Equalizer has +10 Ammo Regeneration.. so if I don't shoot way to quickly I have an endless supply of ammo for my revolver if I would us that one. **Where is the headbanging the wall smiley when you need one**

PS: Sorry if it sounds like I am ranting, just slightly frustrating and just needed to "went" a little bit. :o

yep, thats the ethos of the loot in borderlands, it's all generated randomly from a bunch of lists, it's a deeep rabbit hole figuring out exactly all the aspects your gun has.

rule of thumb is: keep any gun as long as its good, replace it with something better when you get it, and "better" is your perspective of how it fights, sometimes it's just down to suiting your fighting style.

except anything that gives ammo regen- never sell that even if it is horrendously outleveled because you can use it to generate ammo for a good gun, only sell it when you have a better gun that does the same. i used a combo with the equaliser generating ammo for a maliwan legendary acid revolver that i actually fought with.

the dove has infinite ammo, but is generally quite weak to make up for it.

i wouldn't worry too much, there's endless loot and you'll find if you run a second playthrough (or even twice in the same playthrough) that you'll meet the same guns at a higher level.

I'm level 22 and just reached New Haven. Not had a sniff of any orange guns yet but I do have a nice purple mod for Bloodwing.

luck of the draw, in my 3 playthroughs on my siren build in bl2 the second one was literally legendary-fest, orange everywhere in every chest from every boss and from every other enemy.

same thing in bl1- did a siren run through- no legendaries, did a mordecai run through had them dropping left right and centre.

I've been watching someone play this on Twitch. He has an i7 and a 1070. He was playing at 640x480 with all settings on low until I asked him what spec he had and why he was playing with everything turned off. He didn't realise that there were further graphical options in the menus. And even when he started putting things on, he was adamant he didn't want anisotropic filtering more than 2x because it would cause too much load on his CPU.

Really? Is that what PC gaming has become these days? I could have smashed my fist at the screen in frustration.

lolwut

i've been playing on an ivybridge laptop i5 with integrated graphics, i have an excuse to worry about graphical load, he doesn't

Am I right in saying there's no way to swap weapons between characters in the first Borderlands? There's a Maliwan Hellfire for sale in the vending machine but Mordecai really doesn't need it as much as Lilith.
