Borderlands

Am I right in saying there's no way to swap weapons between characters in the first Borderlands? There's a Maliwan Hellfire for sale in the vending machine but Mordecai really doesn't need it as much as Lilith.

not afaik, again something they fixed in bl2

funny really when you play through them you realise how much the dev's are paying attention to what people want, like the grinder in the pre-sequel sounds like a great way to deal with junk

The usual way is to exploit. Have a friend join in, give him the weapon, swap character, get the weapon back from him, hey presto.

Hopefully, the weapons will be customisable. Grips, barrels, scopes, elemental effects, magazines, ect... You can do that in the save editor, but obviously, would be cool to see in-game.

yep, thats the ethos of the loot in borderlands, it's all generated randomly from a bunch of lists, it's a deeep rabbit hole figuring out exactly all the aspects your gun has.

rule of thumb is: keep any gun as long as its good, replace it with something better when you get it, and "better" is your perspective of how it fights, sometimes it's just down to suiting your fighting style.

except anything that gives ammo regen- never sell that even if it is horrendously outleveled because you can use it to generate ammo for a good gun, only sell it when you have a better gun that does the same. i used a combo with the equaliser generating ammo for a maliwan legendary acid revolver that i actually fought with.

the dove has infinite ammo, but is generally quite weak to make up for it.

i wouldn't worry too much, there's endless loot and you'll find if you run a second playthrough (or even twice in the same playthrough) that you'll meet the same guns at a higher level.
Actually I just got a Class Mod that gives +10 Pistol Ammo Regeneration among other things, so I ditched the other revolver and kept my burning one, since I prefer that one for then moment if using a revolver. Sure, I lose out on the Scavange and Helt Regen if I switch when using a revolver but can live with that. :) Plus it also gives +2 to extra crits which I like, already have 3 points in that one. :)

I am definitely keeping my eyes out for other weapons that has ammo regeneration, if there is others then revolvers that is.

I think that's why I never bothered with sniping because they don't ever regenerate ammo. And I've already been discovering how annoying it is trying to pull off headshots with a controller and weapon sway. :D

I go for the class mods that increase Bloodwings damage and/or cool down.

I'm not the best shooter so I prefer long distance with a sniper rifle over revolver but sometimes it's needed in close combat situations. I was told about a "hidden basement" in New Haven where there isn't much room to fight really, went down there 3 times and 2 of them it spawned to badasses for me to play with, and a couple extra, was painful to say the least. :p

It's all good fun though, I enjoying it still even if it's a bit of running around. Just did a bunch of quests at the Trash Coast and that was.. interesting.. and a bit scary.. that queen one has to kill was really BIG.. .. but the sniper rifle helped there.. and against the two badass spiderants that randomly spawned at her area.. and against the Rakk Hive, had to switch between sniper and the SMG to manage that quest. There was NO chance I was going down there facing that Rakk Hive on levelled ground with a revolver ! :p

As soon as I went into New Haven, I thought about the secret area. I've never found it. (But I've never looked online to see where it is either. ) Do you get some good loot in there or something?

Not really for the level I was at, lvl 31. Got this each time though: Rider, a unique sniper rifle made by Gearbox ;) :p Sold it each time though.

You can only access the Hidden Basement when you have the quest Another Piece of the Puzzle activated, once you picked up the Key it is closed again. The place is located opposite where the NCP Erik Franks stands, the one that gives you the Jaynistown: Getting What's Coming To You stands. There is no "Use" prompt, you have to go really close to the door and it auto opens, then as you enter a elevator takes you down to the fun. :p

that would be cool, be able to grind up weapons for their respective parts and put them onto other weapons, the mechanic is sort of there already in the way it randomly generates guns so suppose it could be implemented.

would mean you don't get dissapointed at finding a really good legendary at a low level and knowing you wont be able to use it for long before its obsolete and you'll likely never see it again.

m+kb for the win, although tbh sniping in borderlands is more "action sniping" as the character spawn distances make picking people off at a distance impossible.

gaige update- invested in the anarchy perk, and it's really freaking weird trying not to reload constantly (especially since hitting reload is a subconcious reaction for me after basically every kill), literally had to re-bind my reload key to o to remind me not to do it and lose all those stacks.

its crazy though it basically gives any normal shotgun the spread of the flakker, fortunately i have a homing e-tech pistol which obviously doesnt suffer the accuracy loss but gains stupid silly damage. i'd love to see how bad the flakker would be with maximum anarchy levels, just a cloud of death!

When you get to the right area try Blood Soaked Shields and a Bee. HO LEE ****! :D

yeah, will be a ways off though, fresh game only up to lv13 so far. seems kinda op though, deathtrap is well named even at low levels you basically don't need to fight while he's around

not gonna lie, i've been playing maya for so long i forgot the idea that groups of enemies can be spread out, as opposed to squished together, and being burned/electrocuted/soaked in acid/slagged/standing on top of the grenade i just threw.

Yes, I am quoting myself. :p It is for a reason though, I forgot to check something yesterday and that was how the repeater pistol worked with the above Class Mod and it also Regenerating the ammunition for it which you guys probally already knew but I didn't and makes it nice to be able to use it with two different weapon types. :) Did check with the SMG but no luck there. :( :p

Now to another question. I am lvl 32 now, not far from lvl 33. But as I checked the above I also checked the lvl of my weapons. I am mostly using between lvl 21 and 25 weapons, have one lvl 28 which is the Rocket Launcher and it is barely used. Is there any higher level items around now, or would I have to start a 2nd Playthrough ?? Would shuck a tiny bit to have to redo it all again though. :p But I thought I ask now, since I could just skip all side quests in that case and just do main, restart and do main until I am where I am now and then do all side quests. Would mean I might lose out on more backpack space though. :( :p

Yeah switch to playthrough 2 at this point and start the story again but this time you know what you're doing and you're way better equipped to deal with it.

In PT2 the General Knox DLC starts at Level 51 though so be careful not to wander into that lightly :p

Ok, so if I have it right, do only main quests from now and finish the game ? Problem is, how do I know it is main quest I am doing ? :p I did find this Mission Flow at Borderlands Wikia, if it is correct then it is basically just main missions left ?? Linky to mission flow (and I guess if I want max backpack space have to do the Claptrap Rescue missions though ?)

i'd do the dlc first, then re-play again

I'd go into PT2, do the story till you get fast travel up and then play with the DLC :p

Ok, now you guys confusing me more. Psymonkee said above that general knoxx starts at level 51, I be slaughtered if I go in there as level 32 ! :p

IIRC the main quest is marked in your echo with a vault symbol. You'll need to do those missions at some point yes. Nothing to stop you going to a new playthrough and levelling up before you come back to clean up though ;)

Ah my bad - General Know starts at 51 in Playthrough 2 :) No idea about PT1!

he's messin with ya, don't restart then jump into general knoxx you'll not have a fun time :D

as for missions, there's the general flow of the plot line. if you had to seek out a mission source (without it being linked to a previous mission) then it's just a side quest. thing is, if you only do main quests without the side quests for "stopping to level up" then the level in the game might well overtake you.

I just checked my log and if the Wikia is right, Not Without My Claptrap is main mission and it not showing anything that says so. Unless my game got a bug ?

Yeah. that's why I tried to do all quests that shows on the boards, but then again the link @Psymonkee gave me the chap says the goal is to be done with PT 1 around 32-35. I guess if I try not doing things like the arena and mostly killing things with the car then I might not be to over levelled once I do the final part ??

Or should I just plow through it and see where I end up, even if the weapons I have presently probably be crap once I do PT2 though ! :p
