Bought a phone off eBay: would you say this is in "excellent condition"?

Excellent condition means in a like new condition on ebay. They will definitely side with you.

The even warn sellers when using words like excellent.

Condition Description
New
A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in the original packaging (where packaging is applicable). Packaging should be the same as what is found in the retail shop. If the item comes straight from the manufacturer it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as an unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details.

New other (see details)
A new, unused item with absolutely no signs of wear. The item may be missing its original packaging, or the original packaging has been opened or is no longer sealed. The item may be a factory second, or a new and unused item with minor defects. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections.

Manufacturer refurbished
An item that has been professionally restored to working order by a manufacturer-approved vendor. This means the product has been inspected, cleaned and repaired to meet manufacturer specifications and is in excellent condition. This item may or may not be in its original packaging. See the seller’s listing for full details.

Seller refurbished
An item that has been restored to working order by the eBay seller or a third party not approved by the manufacturer. This means the item has been inspected, cleaned and repaired to full working order and is in excellent condition. This item may or may not be in its original packaging. See the seller’s listing for full details.

Used
An item that has been previously used. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or an item that has been returned to the seller after a period of use. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections.

For parts or not working
An item that does not function as intended or is not fully operational. This includes items that are defective in ways that render them difficult to use, items that require service or repair, or items missing essential components. See the seller’s listing for full details.

No the marks don't wipe off. They're permanent.

Here is the listing.

Blurry picture of the back of the phone? Sounds legit.

Seriously you should have asked to see a photo of the front at least. If he was unwilling then you should have walked away.

As it you'll get your money back just claim under SNAD.

Is it blatant trying to hide the condition? Absolutely. But you need to be aware of these things when you're looking, ask yourself why is there only a blurry picture of the back?

If in doubt, ask. If they don't respond or are evasive, walk away. Be absolutely certain of what you're buying.

That listing clearly makes it sound like an RMA replacement from Google which is in a near perfect condition.

I agree, raise an immediate dispute. The seller knows they are misleading.

Who in their right mind buys a second hand phone full stop!?

Really??

Just think about it for one small moment! Tech issues are the least of your problems!

My last 5 phones have all been second hand. Much better value for money if you are careful. All of them were in excellent (or as described) condition and didn't give me any problems.

My latest purchase was an Xperia Z2 with a smashed front and back which wouldn't power on. Paid £10... New shell including LCD and glass was £40, new back was £3, new (second hand) battery was £5, unlocking service was £8.

I now have a very nice, mint condition, unlocked phone which can party with brand new tech, and it only cost me £66...

Yes so you love the idea of pushing your face up to somebody else's (potentially) TB infested spittle and God-knows-what infested earwax!

A second hand Phone is actually about the next most intimate thing you could possibly expose yourself to next to a second hand Sex toy!

You are happy with that? Really?

Er wut?

If that's your main bother then just wipe it clean with anti bacterial wipes.... Lol

Would you be happy doing that with a S/H sex toy?

OK my comparison is a bit extreme,

But it isn't really!

A phone is something that has been in extended intimate contact with its user. It is actually no different to a sex toy, or underwear or a toothbrush.

Are you saying that you would be happy using any of these other items acquired from some random stranger after just wiping them over with an anti-bac wipe from boots??

Really?

If that were my phone on an auction I would describe it as average to good condition and explain the markings.

Excellent would be near mint with maybe some *really* minor markings and again pointed out.

Do you work in an office or anywhere that uses a desk phone? How about a computer? Door handles? In fact, how do you get on with anything in life?

Wow, life must be pretty tough for you.

Back on topic, eBay tend to side with the buyer, I wouldn't worry. I bought a Nexus 4 with a cracked screen, it didn't mention the touch element didn't work, he refused to take it back but eBay backed me and even sent me a parcel to send it back in, no cost to me.

OK so Orionaut has gone nuts. Great. :p

You can wipe things down with wipes if it bothers you. Besides, the most recent one is in a totally new shell - so the only pre-owned parts are the electronics inside. So nothing I touch, lick, or shove up my arse, has ever been touched, licked, or shoved up someones arse.
