Bought a phone off eBay: would you say this is in "excellent condition"?

Some tips on raising disputes as a buyer on ebay.

  1. Keep it civil between you and the seller if you wish to issue a refund request due to SNAD.
  2. Explain to the seller why you want a refund.
  3. If they refuse to accept the refund then raise a dispute with Ebay
  4. Ebay will wait 9 days for you and the seller to resolve before they step in.
  5. If Ebay finds in your favour (they usually will) they will issue a full refund including the cost of posting the item back to the seller.
  6. If you can't wait 9 days open a dispute at anytime with Paypal. ( I would advise against this as Paypal can take weeks to look at a dispute).
  7. If Paypal find in your favour you are liable for the costs of returning the item.
  8. Always return the item to the address on the sellers paypal account and AWLAYS USE Special Delivery with full insurance and tracking details.

I bought a Fury X with horrible pump whine and it took a few weeks for me to get a refund via Paypal. The seller was abusive and a total **** about it despite have 100% feedback. I told him if he refused the refund and lost the dispute he would lose his Ebay and Paypal fees. I tried reasoning that if he issued a refund he would get those fees would be cancelled and he would only be out the postage.

Paypal found in my favour and I thankfully only lost the postage costs.

I bought a Nexus 5 off the bay, also listed as excellent condition. This was a couple of years ago now.

My definition of excellent is as new.....however, sneaky people would say excellent condition (FOR THE AGE), which is a cop out.

Send it back!

Nope

When selling something to cex they say the item is Z grade to give you peanuts for it. When buying, they'll say it's A grade to fleece you.

Yeah, that's the other way around :D

They're not buying at A grade, they're selling at A grade ;)

I suppose it's just a matter of perspective

A phone is something that has been in extended intimate contact with its user. It is actually no different to a sex toy, or underwear or a toothbrush.

I've had extended, intimate contact with my GTX 980 Ti but that wouldn't stop anyone from buying it second hand :p

you could be like the chump poster that bought a laptop, got a £50 partial refund and still left negative feedback. haha

but really, why not just put it in a case? who cares about a scratch if the price was good. the phone will be worthless in a year or 2.

There is nothing wrong with leaving negative feedback if it is deserved, even if you get a partial refund. The fact that someone mis-represents the item and causes you to have to fight to get a win or compensation is a pain and inconvenience that you would not have if they were honest in the first place.

Yeah you're right, I'm usually much more careful but tracking down a 32GB Nexus 5 is really tough so I suppose when I saw this as excellent I wanted to just buy it and hope for the best. Very foolish really.

BTW I didn't mean to imply you were foolish. You have to make these kinds of mistakes first before you learn, I know I did.

Are you saying that you would be happy using any of these other items acquired from some random stranger after just wiping them over with an anti-bac wipe from boots??

What do you do with your phone, the jack input is for earphones....

Wrong item was listed, seller admitted the fault and a partial refund was agreed on the condition that he did not leave negative feedback but then did it anyway for the lulz and bragged in GD. Said he didn't even care about the 50.

There is something wrong with that. Even if its only that the guy has absolutely no life.

The seller has replied:

Hi, I was waiting for a response from EBay regarding this. I've looked at the pics and I can see the 'mark' you have pointed out on the front but fail to see any that you can see on the back, as it said in the description, it's always had a cover on it. EBay have suggested I offer a partial refund if this would be agreeable to you, what. Would be acceptable to yourself?

What should I do?
