Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

There are various options that some configurations on some cars may require in order to reset and/or code. Did you switch between them to check which ones work for your car? Personally I've not ever had an issue with it, but I do play around with all settings until I find the config that works with my car.

So why would you need carly if all you can do is turn a couple of lights off which usually only appear when a service of somekind is due?

That isn't simply all you can do in it. See the link posted for a full rundown of what can be done.

TV in motion is not something they'd add anyway I imagine due to it being illegal doing such a thing.

Does it allow you to have TV in motion?

NavCoder should allow you enable TV in motion, I think its about 20 quid for the program.

That is a good point, I did not go through the settings so it is possible that it could work. It is a useful app, the coding is super quick and simple and the battery registration feature is nice instead of messing about with DIS or whatever. It is good but if you want the app, the dongle, cable and in-apps unlocked it is on the pricey side.

True enough, depends on what kind of value you put on fiddling with your car's systems using them over the years or whether you want to pay someone else to do it I guess.

I got a free laptop from work now which I'll dedicate to the car only, and received the downloads to the 2016 versions of the INPA?ISTA/NCS apps suite too. So will set about enabling M-Track mode at some point soon.

One of two things happen (DSC OFF, that is), you're either in a world of pain, or a world of joy.

It's fine, just gives you a bit less traction control so you can have a bit more fun, but it still saves you when you run out of talent. Not wildly different to the modern DSC button

Yeah it's the modern equivalent of M Dynamic mode, just without the adjustments to the throttle map, suspension, steering weight etc.

I only really put my foot down on a nice straight were i can see clearly well ahead. Otherwise i just cruise. cant wait to get it out over the weekend, my wife has the kids to got to 2 parties in the daytime. She said to me would i like to come, my answer was a big NO lol. Ill be out in the car all day burning fuel and burning my money but its fun!

On a nice open (but winding) road, explore the chassis and you'll see what the handling is properly like. Obviously use some smarts and don't go overboard :p It's a really rewarding experience

I have now enabled M Track. Was far easier than I imagined. The 2016 INPA suite update helped, no faffing with virtual machines, especially on limited OS disk space. Getting the software installed and set up in the right order was a 2hr mission making sure everything was right. I now have a dedicated coding/diagnostics laptop, so am pretty much sorted. bcables threw in 31GB of BMW reference manuals too. No idea what to do with all that. Maybe it will come in handy one day, maybe it will sit in a folder forever more...

I predict it won't take you long till you change the colour of the m-track symbol :p it annoyed me enough I swapped yellow for green so it looked less like a warning light and more like a benefit

I'm guessing its a pcb board behind the trim, somehow remove that, remove the led and solder a new one in it's place. Mist likely a surface mount I would guess.

Looking at that I would just replace the orange led with a surface mount green one of the same package and maybe change the resistor value if needed to get the brightness you want. Look like 1206 resistor so easy enough to hand solder, led should be easy enough to do as well with out having to use though parts.

Ah yes, as I have the correct cluster, I just want to direct swap the LED with a green one. A 20mA one by the sounds of it? Or I could get a blue transparent piece of film and stick it in front of the LED to get sort of green since blue and yellow make green? :o

That's a bit of a misleading statement that, you want an LED that can have over 20ma put in it but you want to put ~20ma though it to get the brightness you want. This is where changing the resistor may be needed.

Something like this might do it if its a two pin chip that's 2.4mm in size (bit hard to tell in his image)

You can use this site to work out the resistor if you want/need to change how bright it is.

I'm guessing the source voltage is 5, that led has a forward voltage of 2.2 so so for 20ma you need a resistor of 150r.

Hmm I will investigate further. It would be nice to have a green LED, although I don't mind it being yellow either :o

Plenty of colours to chose from. If you need help doing it when you down Medway way your more then welcome to come to my work and ill sort it out for you.
