Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

Look at the front wheel STANCE y0. Not a fan of the square look. The rears being concave vs the front as standard give a more masculine sports car look.

Mine will be back to near mint condition soon enough. I do much prefer the American Chrome finish on the stock wheels over diamond cut. The latter will corrode over time, there's nothing that can be done about that, whereas the polished finish will continue to look fresh year round.

I'm just tossing the coin on whether to BMW BBK or just refurb the callipers again. the PFC pads are excellent so may well just let them wear down over the years first and just get the calliper refurb for now and BBK it once I need new pads and discs again as I only just got those replaced - Doesn't make sense to change them so soon.

Will be dropping off the exhaust and confirming some details with bodyshop tomorrow and am expecting it to be finished around the weekend of the 16th now that I know there are no parts availability delays.

Are you tracking the car? do you have trouble stopping with boggo brakes? if so BBK Yo!

I had them on my 130 when they were dirt cheap (1700 my brother paid for a full set for his 125i), but a decent set of pads and discs work fine for less wonga, depends how much you press that middle pedal and need braggin rights on a BBK like the Dub peeps with 6pots on their 1.4 Polo :D

Insurance was £460 when I renewed earlier in the year. Will find out if it changes soon. I have been assured by my insurer that it will not go up at all though as it was a non fault incident and the other party has admitted fault (their own group even). If it goes up I can contest this as I have it on record (they record all calls) saying it won't go up.

They really did used to be absolutely dirt cheap didn't they? :(

1700 full set? God :(

Oh well, I'll just stick to stock single piston brakes then and get the refurbed back to matte black. £45 per calliper at a local wheel specialist. Seeing the manky brown callipers through the alloys is always an eyebrow raiser :p

Haha good man! Looking forward to comparing differences since the Z4M has a different exhaust configuration next-next meet for sure then :p

M3 update.

My guy has stripped the rear down and given everything a good seeing to. He's also got a local specialist down the road to get a 2nd opinion. They have come to this diagnosis.

* The boot lid needs replacing as it is slightly bent. BMW did not mention this at all. Used bootlids aren't readily available, ones that are in questionable condition. Sourced a new lid from BMW with all trim bits and coverings for £300.

* The exhaust backbox is actually fine. Only one of the hanger bits were bent. BMW said a new backbox was needed... The £150 OEM exhaust I bought earlier is in better surface condition than mine though (expected as it's done half the mileage) so he's gonna swap them over and I can clean up mine and throw it on eBay for £100.

* 2x parking sensors are needed, all 4 of mine work but the centre 2 have been flattened on the inside due to the impact. Cheap enough to replace anyway so that's fine.

* New (used) bumper being delivered Thursday. It was a complete item with crash panel. £180.

The materials cost for paint, prep items and lacquer for the whole car comes to £1700.

So far the tally comes to £2520 inc the alloy refurbs and before labour is added. The car will need to be MOTd once the whole job is done. The repairs are even easier than BMW stated. A few question marks over BMW's choice of replacing the exhaust and not the boot lid though but otherwise the repair outcome is looking to be excellent.

I can look forward to installing the Eventuri next Thursday with a view of getting the remap done on Friday and having a few grand left in pocket from the whole ordeal.

So:
1) You're getting the work done by a reputable guy
2) The damage isn't as bad as initially thought
3) You'll be quids in
4) No cat D?

Edit: Just seen above comment. Cat D :(

Yes it is a cat D, but the money in pocket will at least cover the bulk of any devaluation loss in the immediate term at least anyway. Unfortunately this is the nature of the beast that is insurance.

Still, just glad to be able to look forward to getting the car back in tip top condition. Actually it will be better condition than what it was in so that's good at least.

I presume you will be extensively documenting the repairs? I know the cat D marker matters to some (instant turn off) but seeing what the damage was and how it was repaired would go a long way to re-assuring me that a car had been repaired properly and was generally looked after.

Glad it looks like it will work out financially for you at least :)
