Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

I suppose it saves them further costs just by replacing the section affected as opposed to the whole stamped section to get the same end result?

Changing out a whole section is a massive amount of work, far far easier to simply change the damaged part, which has MRK has already said is the done thing for rear wheelarches / floorpans / firewall rust etc etc.

Nope, no subframe/chassis/alignment issues. BMW did a full check during their estimation and gave it the all clear. There is no damage beyond the first boot floor panel.

I'd just hope that was an oversight :p but having said that, the subframe cracks and underside issues are pretty obvious with the car ramped up if there are any so there is that I suppose.

£600 air filter update:

It also came with an ice cream scoop, I assume this is for ice cream to snack on while fitting the Eventuri.

Neat.

Nothing wrong with cutting out metal and welding in new stuff. If done correctly it will be as strong as new.

Tbh i was expecting worse.

mrk whats your thought on the air filter ? Have a I make a terrible mistake or does it look awesome ? Looks great in your pics.

It really is a well made piece of kit. The carbon fibre lay is excellent and everything about it feels really solid.

I have no car to install it in for another week or so so can't comment on its use, but it is built to what appears to be a very high standard. Both scoop and airbox "bell" are carbon fibre and polished on the outside, bare CF on the inside. The supporting heat shields are high quality too with rubberised ends and foamed inside panels. The tube appears to be of OE quality construction too.

It certainly looks and feels expensive. I have not RTFMd yet to find out how to clean the red filter inside. I imagine dust and crap will collect on it as time goes on, so something to add to the weekly checklist when washing the car.

Mine is number 298. Surprised so few have sold!

I don't think that is so surprising. Most M3 owners would be paying £30 for some ducting, £20 for a cheap cone, and £5 for some clasps and cable ties.

They have a CSL style one too, but that's even more expensive. Been in development endlessly though hasn't it? Though that requires MAF delete and Alpha-N.

It's not required, that's just how Evolve choose to map their cars. Speak to Gibbo (I think it's Gibbo) about how he mapped his CSL airbox. He used a CSL map sensor. Works much better.
