Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

Well to keep spirits high here's a teaser sent from the ceramic guy doing his last few bits before it goes into the 12-15hr curing stage tonight

I have a few things going on over the next few days that are more important than a car though, hopefully nothing that affects my attendance at the meet next week.

Nice! I bet it's going to feel strange getting back behind the wheel after some time. I never forget the smell a car has after it's been in the body shop and had fresh paint, kinda like it...

It's going to feel more strange being in proper horse power and noise again after nearly 2 months! My interior has an awesome smell anyway so I'm used to that and it will no doubt overshadow the bodyshop smell.

Joking right? When I got my Silvia back from the paint shop it smelt so bad I didn't even want to go near it.

I guess some people can't stand the smell of petrol, whereas I like it. Can't say that I've ever thought paint smelt nice though. You weren't sniffing it were you? :p

Sounds like your bodyshop might have released several farts in your car. Unlucky fart face :p

I want to lick it.

I want to keep the box the Cosmic kit comes in, in fact he did say there will be some left over, woo!

Shiny but there's gonna be LOADS of orange peel from looking at that reflection.....

Mine had no orange peel (fair play to him there) but he could not finish the job well AT ALL after 3 attempts, main issue was swirls UNDER the lacquer, ended up selling as I couldn't stand how it was looking as time went on, so I hope you're happy with yours when it's all back :)

Excuse the phone photo and poor weather, it just started raining again which sucks...

Results are great, a few bits left like the badge and spoiler and eventuri install so will drop by the unit thus afternoon when they're quiet and install those under warm conditions. I wanted to fit those myself anyway.

The car is gonna be filthy shortly but the water sheating and beading is epic.

In current conditions everything looks great, but I need a sunny day to give it a full wash and step back to take it all in.

Now,to cleaning my seats!

Looks lovely buddy! :)

With such a good paint prep and good wax, when you get it home just run a free flowing hose pipe over it and the dirt will just come off anyway and it will be clean again. That is the beauty of a good wax/sealant on the paint, means dirt just comes off the car effortless.

Now your paint is perfect, I would recommend you avoid waxing in the traditional way that involves rubbing wax on with a sponge pad and then buffing it off with a microfibre because no matter how hard you try it will cause swirls.

Check out http://www.autobritedirect.co.uk/ and get some project 32 sealant. You simply spray it on, wipe, turn the cloth and wipe off. It means your not rubbing the paint and keeps swirl free. Plus the finish is superb, what I used on my 911 and Mustang, durability is not bad either.

Of course right now you need do nothing I suspect due to fresh paint, so wait a while, let it breathe etc.

Yeah they recommended waiting a few weeks to let the paint and sealant properly settle, I suspect with the weather being forecast all over the next few weeks the filth will irk me to no end but it is what it is. And knowing my luck I'll end up with scratches/scuffs and what have you purely because I'm blessed with these little rounds of bad luck and have grown to accept my fate :(

I fitted the Eventuri today, it sounds sweet.

The primary heat shield pushclips are supposed ot be revised ones, IMO once pushed in and secured the clips still feel a bit thin to me? If these are revised then god knows how thin the original version clips were.

I also dropped a screwdriver extension in the undertray and cannot reach it so it's gonna move about and fall onto the road at some point. It's too far into the centre of the car and the tray spans the entire engine bay so nearly impossible to reach :/

Also, quick videos:

I do have something comical from today though, a guy was walking past the garage when the bodyshop were tidying up the car and it was parked outside awaiting my collection, he asked them if that was the same one he saw with the smashed up rear end weeks ago and that he wanted to buy it.
He said he'd happily pay £15k at least and that it would go into his collection of older sports cars. I completely think he's just glossing and talking the talk. But 15k? Is he insane for a Cat D? Should I even entertain the notion of asking him if he's serious? that's nearly M3 CS money, which I'd definitely consider selling up for
