Bought an old BMW M3, filled with regret...

Ok mrk sounds good, good ones are going up in price as its soon to become a collectors car. 2 trader friends of mine told me this and theyve been in the game for 25 years+. For example the m3 e36 with around 50k miles is now £12-13k.

So there's hope still for strong money from a mint cat d M3 m8 in the distant future then when nearly all other examples are nails :p

Summer time always seems to place a bit of premium on the M3's Albeit I have noticed the prices do appear to have been rising slightly but steadily over the last 3 months for good examples.

No chance of ever selling a cat D for more than 50P m8, bet its repaired with wood screws, expanding foam and cable ties. :D

What is the actual point of this post? It only serves the purpose of spam in what is already a perfectly decent good thread. If you have nothing to actually contribute dont post at all.

Simples :p

I think it rather succinctly sums up Acme's recent purchase. Apart from the fact that he paid thousands of pounds for his rather than 50p, which ironically is it's true value.

So, done over 20k miles now and the interior looks better than the day I got the car.

Good progress

That's looks fantastic! What have you been using?

I have some Simoen (sp?) leather wipes and whenever I use them it just leaves the seats in a streaky mess!

Looking good, love those seats!
Do yours squeak when you get in and out as if they were made of plastic? :p

That one is quite high price! Or have these started to go up? Mine was 13k with only 2900 more miles in 2014, and that was deemed expensive by some :o

Anyhow, one quick and easy mod I can highly recommend for the convertible is one touch power windows up. It involved chiselling away the notch on the window switches that stop the rear windows from auto winding up when you pull up the switch. You just then have to code in the power windows up in the smartphone app and you're set.

Keep an eye out for one of the southern meet threads, if we go to the same one I'm happy to do whatever coding you need

mrk, just a question about the coding here. What do you use to code your car? I have a 325Ti Sport, and the keys bring down all the windows and open the rears outward like wings, and then when you do the up, the rear windows don't close!! Bloody irritating!

Cheers :p

I use the Gliptone leather cleaner and leather preserver bottles. The preserver is great, leave a lustre and you know exactly when it's cured in because the surface has a rubbery finish to it which you can then buff off with a dry towel.

No abnormal seat squeaking here, there is a small amount though but that's to be expected from leathers rubbing against each other I guess.

I use Carly for BMW. What you describe is what I had in the E46 coupe too, the rear windows pop out but not back in. You have to code in the rear window function for the pop out windows too IIRC which allows them to open and close from the fob, and once you've modified the rear window switches, one-touch close.

They don't auto close because of some funky EU safety regulation from what I understand.

Another vote for Gliptone here. Very easy to use and the results are amazing.

I get a bit of squeaking when I put pressure on the sides of the seats (where the electric seat controls are).

Blimey, that's unbelieveably expensive!! Do you happen to know whether the app works with a generic bluetooth device?

Thanks!

Can't code the e46 using bluetooth unfortunately . A mistake I made when I bought the car :p

I don't know what generic one you might have, but E46 era BMWs need a wired dongle for coding, newer cars can code via Bluetooth. The app isn't cheap, but it does a lot, and isn't limited to just 1 car either, so it's feature packed for life.

I have some stuff from BMW Sytner which they left in the car by accident when it was serviced. I have no idea what it is as its an unmarked bottle, cleans great though, not sure if its a leather cleaner or interior cleaner only. ;)

@mrk - good job on the seats! I have stitching issues so have to get the covers off and properly sorted with new panels, but once sorted will be keeping them clean. If people just did a clean and condition once a month or so these things would probably last a lot better.

I like le mans blue, it really pops!

That estoril one above had been on sale for ages @15k but slowly dropping!

A 16k mile totally immaculate eb vert went for 16k on m3c a few weeks ago, if that was around 2 months ago I'd have snapped his arm off, although would have been scared to use it as condition is everything!

Thanks for the info, both of you. I might buy one of these, then. Looks like it'll do fault codes etc, though I'm not sure about key programming to be honest.

Those are just fault code read/reset tools, which will be fine for thatsort of stuff, can reset service indicators and things too with most.

To code customisations to your car's modules though, you will need either a lcaptop with the BMCables.com software package installed, or the much less faff way, using the Carly app :p

This is the thing, cars like these deserve to be driven whatever the mileage or condition :p Ultimately I guess don't mind the exterior getting a few marks, swirls and whatnot as this is to be expected.

One thing totally within my control is the interior, so I just made sure the car I ended up buying had an interior condition that was a good baseline for me to work with. Some are just beyond a refresh though as literally everything would need to be ripped out and cleansed. Under my seats and in the little nooks, not a single bit of crap.
