Boy Racer Image has to Go.....

nowt wrong with an insignia tbh, you dont have to go for a VXR to get a fast one :)

you can get the 2.8 twin turbo and 4wd with elite spec rather than vxr. less shouty and a bit more business suit like. or be sensible and get a fwd 160 bhp oil burner :)

But with elite spec it is the same price as a VXR, but slower and less comfy.
Also due to the price and the fact it is a saloon it doesnt look like a boy racers car :)
I dont think anyone's tried racing me yet, people pull up at lights then dont bother trying and it is amazingly comfy for long journeys :)

Oh, failure. In my eyes alfa Romeo are just as renowned as Audi if not more prestigious and classy!

I'd pick an Alfa over most others, in fact I did. Looking for new car after getting license back, got a Mito with the TCT gearbox.
Nice in that there are at most 2 others in the area. Waits for the usual "when's it going to break down/rust etc etc.
I look out of the window and see a nice looking car as opposed to the usual box with 4 wheels. Am I mad probably, but after all crap I've been through the past 2 yrs, it's great. Put it in Dynamic & the TCT in manual, it blows away the thoughts of MS.

yes, but surely you can get 120bhp from an 1.8 WITHOUT the turbo?
If cost effectiveness is in mind surely dumping the turbo would be the first step you take?

it's like the old vag 1.8. 125bhp NA, 150 with turbo, 180 in later revisions and so on.

take the 6.2 V8 in the AMG Mercs

The one in the C63 AMG is limited to 450bhp. The same engine in the E63 etc.. produces 500bhp plus.

So what did they do ? just restrict the maximum throttle in the C63 to about 70 %

So you get an engine that produces 50bhp less for 0 research and development and 5 minutes writing an different ECU that just limits maximum throttle

I suspect Audi do a similar thing. Rather than develop a separate 1.8 N/A engine, just take the 1.8T and stick an ECU restriction in restricting the throttle to give the desired power for the price point. Job done.

Course you can.... My old Corsa SRi 1.8 came with 125bhp as standard...

Yes but I doubt you can get 170lbs/ft of torque from an NA 1.8.
