Brazilian Grand Prix 2011, Interlagos Circuit - Race 19/19

What you recon Nuts, 2 additional sets that have to be handed back after qualifying, and the removal of the start on the tyres you qualify on rule? Would that sort it and stop people saving tyres?

It wouldn't sort not being able to really push for a decent part of the race though, You lose too much time in the pits (pit speed limit :( ) to be able to do 4 stoppers etc. They really are in tire saving mode after 10 laps for the most part.

He didn't have the best car in 2007 or 2008. The fact that McLaren hasn't won a WCC in over a decade proves this. He's never had the best car. He's forever moaning that McLaren's never have a good rear end. He only shut up about that when the EBD came to his car this year.

Does not mean they never had the best car :) 2007 they scored more than Ferrari but were cheats, 2008 they had Heikki who was beaten by both Sauber drivers and Alonso in a Renault :D

So you wont be joining us for 2012 then?

Well lets put it this way.
What are the highlights of this season...yes Canada..and ..hmm..oh Lewis crashing...and..hmmmm sorry I got nothing else.

But take 2007 or 2008 or 2009 you could fill a page with great highlights.
F1 is is just going around in circles trying to please evryone but the fans.

Its a shame they didn't appeal it. It was a proper WTF penalty. McLaren (well, Alonso) did something that hindered McLaren, and McLaren alone... and the FIA decided they needed a penalty?!? Yet the driver who caused it all got no penalty...

It made no sense.

Think you will find Lewis also played funny games in blocking Alonso and ignoring the team to let him pass, which was why they paid it back to Hamilton, they both done wrong, and Alonso got a 5 place penalty also. McLaren got the penalty for lying, much like Australia when they lied to the stewards about the yellow flags.

Well tell us what year he did have the best car. I just missed your edit...

2007 they outscored Ferrari, must be the best car right as that guy said not winning the WCC proves it was not the best, so in effect winning it says they did have the best car...

2008 they had Heikki who scored less points than both Sauber drivers and a dog of a Renault, while Lewis won the WDC, most people can accept Heikki poor points stopped McLaren winning the WCC and that they had the better car.

Have I missed something as Ferrari won the WDC and the WCC in 2007?

And if was not for Alonso doing silly things then lewis would have won the WDC in 2007...and Ferrari won the WCC in 2008

Exactly. This has been the worst season to watch for a long time. I barely bothered to tune in for the last 3 or 4 races TBH. It was only that fear of missing a possible exciting overtake for once that kept me going :( Didn't really happen though.

2007 to 2009 were gripping seasons. 2010 but especially 2011 have been terrible by comparison IMO. The only overtake I can remember from this year was several of Button's in Canada. Oh and that hilarious pass Webber did on Alonso at Spa, though it wasn't really all that as Alonso yielded big time. Everything else is just one great big DRS fogged up blur of nothingness.

Overtakes are too complicated now for even hardcore fans to understand. You never really quite know "how" an overtake was achieved. Whether it was with KERS or DRS or whatever. All these crazy little systems now help the drivers close the gap and boost their way past but it just removes a purity from the racing. Before all this, an overtake was an overtake not because of some driver aid but because a driver made it work through sheer determination and skill and/or differences in car performance at that stage of the race etc.

Here's an idea. Link the KERS and DRS together. One button, operates them simultaneously. At least then the position of the rear wing is a no-nonsense visual cue as to what the car is doing at any given point in time.

Ferrari won it due to McLaren being thrown out for spygate, otherwise they outscored Ferrari.

How did Alonso stop Lewis winning the title in 2007? driving into the gravel in China probably lost him the title. Ferrari did win the WCC in 2008 as they had 2 drivers, McLaren had 1, as I already said about Heikki not delivering, which most people can easily agree with.

I think this topics been exhausted - onto the next one; just watched the F1 Forum and found it interesting to hear that theres a possibility for a tyre war in 2014. As I understand it Pirelli are getting ready for this possibility by producing a more grippery compound next year which will lead to an even shorter life expectancy. I await the moans :p

What I want to understand is, is this a directive from the FIA or Pirelli doing this off their own back to ensure they have a quick tyre down the road if this tyre war happens (unintentional pun :p) and what constraints do they have to work within?

I also find it interesting that the teams have stopped Pirelli making a tyre change to prevent the current Q3 situation when certain teams dont post a time to conserve new tyres. You cant blame Pirelli fo making a tyre as prescribe by the FIA and then having their hands tied when they want to fix the non-display we have been getting of late in qualifying...

ps3ud0

Hmm just off the top of my head..how about Alonso waiting in the pit with Lewis behind him try to change tires..

There was more but do you really need telling?

Do you mean Hungary? that was started by Lewis playing games with Alonso and in any case Lewis started from pole due to Alonso getting a 5 place drop, and went on to win the race, so yes do tell me more :)

Seen a lot of comments that the FIA wanted tyres that fell apart a lot quicker than Bridgestone but could never find anything official, not sure how they work it now as it seems Pirelli have worked to stop the races being filled with pitstops like it was in Turkey.

I think it was more the fact that Alonso grassed the team in to the FIA.

Thus setting off the chain of events that led to McLaren's downfall and implosion that season.

And if the conspiracies are to be believed the tyre/gravel trap incident at China, along with the mysterious gearbox issue at Brazil, were staged as part of the £100mil Max Mosley dictated penalty.
