Brazilian Grand Prix 2012, São Paulo - Race 20/20

Can you imagine the name-calling which would result on this forum if it did Massa/Webber punted off Vettel/Alonso?

Given the serious nature of F1 threads on this forum, I would expect at least 5 people to receive suspensions for the ensuing arguments. :p

It would be pretty messy. In fact, I wouldn't want to get involved as the thread would move so fast you'd struggle to keep up.

If Vettel tangles with Alonso I'd be pretty disappointed. Flashbacks of a smug Schumacher an' all.

Conspiracy theorists are out in force I see, Ferrari opted to take a penalty in Austin for the sole purpose of grid position for Alonso.

Dirty side vs clean side of the grid, the difference between each side in Brazil is not the same as it was in Austin.

I think it's pretty clear that Alonso, knowing full well he has absolutely nothing to lose has opted for a wet set-up. We'll know tomorrow if the decision was an inspired one or a bad one.

Webber's not going to take out Alonso deliberately. Aside from the fact that they're meant to be good friends, I can imagine with all of the **** that Red Bull have shovelled Webber to supposedly favour his team-mate in the past few years, that somewhere deep inside, Webber would probably prefer Alonso to win.

And how about something nobody has mentioned, Vettel taking out Alonso?

This wouldn't be all that surprising if we took history into account. That said, It's really not something that fits in with this generation of F1 drivers...

Of course it would be bad news either way, but it looks like the Massa Vettel idea has escalated from just fanboy internet ramblings to enough of a genuine possibility that Sky were talking about it in all 3 practice sessions and felt they could ask the teams and drivers about the possibility of it happening.

Don't mistake lighthearted jokes as fanboyism :p

That said, I'm surprised that Sky were foolish enough to think it was actually a possibility.

I think the whole race will end up being a bit flat. Sadly the points aren't closer so that if Alonso beat Vettel he would win the title. That way there would be some pressure on vettel. As it stands Vettel can let the mclarens scamper off with the big points and feel no pressure if Alonso is right behind him or even a place ahead.

Leaving people sadly hoping for a retirement to change the outcome. So I'm predicting a Vettel DNF and then Alonso failing to secure the points he needs anyway ;)

Agree with the above if it remains dry.

Great qualy result for Lewis and Jenson :D

Rather nice Lewis got pole in his last race at McLaren, hope he and Jenson have a great race tomorrow.

Webber is pathetic off the line.
I also expect him to have some form of car failure tomorrow.

Vettel however, is usually brilliant off the line and mesmeric in the opening few laps of the GP. I don't understand how you can say Vettel is anything but great off-the-line, given that he time trials (brilliantly) when starting from pole and is usually able to drive the opening 2 laps of a GP faster than any other driver currently in F1. That's his specialty.

Hamilton usually needs a few laps to get into the groove.
While Alonso usually has even race pace throughout the entire race.

The red bull is simply bad off the line, I'm not talking about driving, and Hamilton never needs a few laps to get in the groove.

The Mclaren is the worst on heavy fuel and struggles for a few laps, has done almost every single race. Cruising off in clear air isn't difficult nor mesmeric, basically everyone on pole does so. The Ferrari is the best car off the line and seems to have the best speed in the first couple laps... more efficient engine, less fuel, no idea. The Red bull is the fastest car in a lot of races and all the ones they get pole on, but its simply slow off the line.

Vettel even on pole into the first corner is often fighting to hold position, 3 corners later he's pulling away, that isn't the issue, its speed off the line and to the first corner, the Ferrari owns every single car out there EASILY off the line(unless you count Maldonado and false starting :p ). Webber also gained on Vettel into the first corner last week, and Vettel has lost off the line to Webber a couple times only to have the position taken back straight away.

Of the top 4 cars, maybe 5 cars, the Red bull is the slowest off the grid, probably Ferrari, Mclaren, Lotus, then Red Bull, fastest in the first couple laps, Ferrari, fastest over race distance, usuall Red Bull.
