Brazilian Grand Prix 2013, São Paulo - Race 19/19

Like when he joined us from STR you mean ;)

Hehehe.
I know. I know.

What I'm saying is that Vettel has no current (equal) competitor. He is now winning every race and settings records.

The only guy we can compare him against is MSc. No one else compares.

What MSc did was win with Bennetton. Best car. Best team, etc.
Won 2 titles.
Then he left them, for a Ferrari who hadnt won a title for over a decade.
[This was against the norm, at the time - at this time, the best drivers always gravitated to the fastest cars. Moving away from the best car, to a slower car was mental].
Then, he made Ferrari into a winning team.
Sure, Brawn and Rory Byrne also went to Ferrari BUT, Ferrari needed a top class driver to seal the deal.

It would be equivalent to Vettel leaving RBR, tomorrow. Stating he needs a new challenge (ie. he wont be driving the best car anymore), moving to Williams, say. And then winning the title in 2016, with them.

MSc had huge "balls" to make that move.
What made me believe that MSc was/is the greatest of all time was his courage to move away from the fastest car and win multiple titles with more than 1 team.

Hekki doing very well again, hope he gets a good break at the race and gets a good points haul.

To my surprise, Heikki's 1-lap pace does appear to be pretty damn good.
I want to see what he can do across a whole race distance, though.
I havent forgotten what Hamilton did to him during the 2 years he partnered Heikki. Heikki's career was effectively over and he ended up with Lotus, at the back of the grid.

Am I right in thinking that Interlagos is one of the few circuits that hasn't changed at all over the past 10 years or so? That would be a way to compare the relative speed/lap times of the cars over the years, no?

The layout hasn't changed, but the surface has quite frequently, usually with an instant improvement in grip (which then diminishes over the following year).

2004 was the fastest year for F1, wasn't it? That seems to be where most of the lap records come from.

Seems to be, yes.
Rubens Barrichello got pole with 1.10:646, with a race lap record coming from Montoya of 1.11.

2009 had Vettle on pole with a 1.11:9 so not hugely far away.

Compare that with '95 where Hill got pole with a 1.20.

As said above, track surface may affect these, but it's still interesting.

It'd be interesting to see a comparison of 2004 to 2009, showing speed through the corners and at the end of the straights. I'd imagine 2009 cornering speeds are way up on 2004.
