Breaking Bad Season 4

I was really expecting at least part of the final season to be some massive Walt vs Gus war, but instead it's all done by the end of this one. As others have said, that's almost a shame, as Gus was such a great character. I'd have loved to have known a little more about this mysterious past that kept getting mentioned. Maybe Hank will dig something up.

Yeah, i think dexter peaked in season two when he was close to being discovered, that's the stuff that makes the show interesting but there's not enough of it, i want to see him seriously screw things up and someone to find out again, it's gotten too easy for him.
The trouble with Dexter is that every season is essentially a reset, so whilst it's still fairly good, the tension never increases, and it just becomes the standard.

What's made Breaking Bad so amazing is that it just keeps piling on the tension. That's (part of) what's made every episode so good. From a good-natured husband who was just trying to sell a bit of drugs to leave his kids something, Walt's now a stone-cold killer, child poisoner, and pretty much the biggest drug player in the entire southwest. That's some development.

Great interview HERE with Vince Gilligan about series 4 and the final episode. He also mentions series 5.

Q: Next season is 16 episodes, it sounds like they'll air over two years. How are you planning it out? Are you going to insert a specific break point around episode 8, 9 or 10?

A: I think so. It sounds to me like the thinking on the part of AMC is to split it into two seasons. So we'll try to have a proper cliffhanger, I would think, at the end of the first 8. Which I don't think would be too tough for us, because we try to do a cliffhanger more or less with everything we do. We try to play each one like it's our last as much as we possibly can. Hopefully, that won't be too tough.

That's exactly it, it's this persistence and development that makes it special. The characters have grown and changed, at least the main ones. I would've loved to see Skylar being pushed out of her comfort zone a little more this season for instance. Maybe being forced to pull the trigger on Ted rather than have his death be an accident, get a little taste of the decisions Walt's been wrestling with.

Much as well all loved Gus's badassitude though I think the standout performance this season was from Aaron Paul. Jesse really goes through a rollercoaster and wrestles with a lot of stuff, but he managed to keep him sympathetic throughout. He's the one character that changed most, from annoying, ignorant wannabe "gangsta" to someone we really feel for. The tension between him and Walt in that last scene of theirs had me literally biting my lips till blood came out. A large part of me wanted them to just break down the tension and wrap each other into a big old manhug, but part of me was also thinking that there was a large probability that they'd pull a gun on each other! :p Leaving things the way they did was possibly the cruellest cliffhanger they've done so far!:D

What if there's someone above Gus too? I mean, who owns this mysterious German multinatinal we kept hearing so much about?

A year is way too long to wait. :(

I thought that too, there must be someone above Gus?

Gus will be missed for sure. He was a lovable ****!

I'm siding more with Jesse than Walt because to me Walt is no worse than Gus!

Someone will come for Gus. No question about that.

I reckon Walt will die of cancer at the end of the series.

Also, my favourite thing about Breaking Bad is how all four series have essentially taken place over the course of one year.

A man like Gus doesn't get to where he is without making some very high level friends and enemies. Assuming that the Mexican Cartel was his main enemy, you're left with his friends, whom I'm guessing will not be too happy when they find out Walt is behind his death. Think of someone along the lines of the Bolivian drug lord in Scarface.

maybe, but i think this next season will be about Walt v Hank with Mike coming back in some form. Jesse will work out it was Walt that poisoned the kid as well.

One question that needs to be answered is, who is going to pay Mike's salary? and not to mention everyone else that was under Gus.. like those doctors in Mexico.

and don't forgot Walt is pretty much low on funds too.

Wish we got bill boards as cool as this. :(

I think Walt would be well to throw that plant away!

As for Jesse, still not sold on him, he was the cause of so much ****.

I don't think Jesse will find out about Walt poisoning the boy until RIGHT at the end. He managed to keep one unforgivable secret already- letting Jane choke - I think it'll all come out, but not until episode 16. ;)

I just found this.... somebody asking questions about lily of the valley poisioning for "a book they're writing". :p Seems it can definitely be lethal, and getting the right dose is an imprecise thing, so there's no real way Walt could have known that his actions weren't going to kill little Brock.

There's loads of possibilities for next season. I expect it's mostly going to be Hank vs Walt. This season ended with Walt saying "I won"....... I expect Hank is going to win the final season. He's the only really "good" character there is, excluding Walt Jr and the baby.
