Breaking Bad Season 5 - Part I

So I've been watching the first four series through these past few weeks.

... Does anyone else think that Mike is just the best character in the series? He might not be the most dynamic character, or the most realistic, but he seems to get all the best scenes! For instance:

... plus the scene at the start of s4e4 - the one where he's in the back of a Pollos Hermanos truck that gets attacked by the cartel (among many others).

On a different note - I rate the "Gus' backstory" episode among the best episodes that have ever appeared on TV. Just brilliant. I love these unexpected retrospectives in TV shows (like the "Richard Alpert" episode in Lost that someone mentioned earlier - which was easily the best episode of that show).

There is no way that Walter White is not the best character in Breaking Bad.

And I don't mean most likeable, or nicest guy, or even my favourite (that's Jesse). But he's by far the best character in the show. End of.

It depends how you define it...

He's the main character, and he has the most screen time, so we certainly see deeper into him than anyone else.

My feelings on Mike are driven by the fact that he seems to get a lot of the best scenes, and always plays his part to perfection. Also I guess I identify strongly with his calm, pragmatic approach to everything - including murder.

I like Mike :D

Ahem, are we forgetting Jesse's money moment last season?!

The one where he throws a wad of cash into the air and shouts "money!", then sits back and watches the carnage?

Or the one where he comes downstairs to find Mike with a tied-up junkie and his gym-bag full of cash returned?

and is it true part 2 is next year after next weeks ?

... Nope - there are two more episodes after that.

:D Okay now that was powerful **** !

Guess I was thinking too literally when you said "money moment".

There's been a few times this season where Hank has looked like maybe he's starting to put it together. Obviously there's the blatent stuff like the expensive watch and cars, I don't think Hank is necessarily overlooking those, but there's also been at least one other time where just a subtle look/response to something has really given me the impression he's started to put 2 and 2 together.

He doesn't have enough evidence for it to be anything more than a gut feeling right now, but perhaps him not wanting to believe what he might be starting to suspect is just as big an obstacle.

i think this is true. i do think he knows he may be involved but just waiting for more evidence to fully show him that his bro in law is hiesenburg

as suggested as you watch hes given a few funny looks and glances at him during certain key times. when hes done this with others something has normally happened shortly after.

im starting to think he may just tell them soon anyway

Walter? Tell Hank?

No chance...

I think we all realise it's inevitable that Hank will find out about Walt at some stage. But I can't see it coming from Walt. Either Hank will find out on his own, or it will be a case of Skylar confides in Marie (perhaps 'accidentally' while she's medicated due to stress / depression), who then tells Hank.

I'm not sure if he is the best but I do think he is great. So ruthless and cold most of the time.

I think this too, and it is why I thought that S4 might be the peak of the series.

I disagree. I think it's close between him and Jesse, although Gus was superb too.

One liners don't make the character, character makes the character! I can think of a few actors who could easily do the role of Saul but I can't think of anyone who could pull off Jesse or Walt as good as they do especially in highlight segments (Jesse's speech posted above, for example).
