Brendan Rodgers sacked - If you're happy and you know it KLOPP your hands !!!

The reports last night said it will be signed and sealed by Friday.

Any idea on how much settlement Rodgers is getting? He's on something like five million a year?

Friday could be an exciting day, are there any press events planned? or is it a case of it will be announced on the morning/day before to have press there and waiting?

That is quite a lot of money, however, I'm of the opinion a mars bar and a slap on the arse would be too much thanks for the start Liverpool have had this season.

Hopefully they can negotiate a lower fee.

Where now for Rodgers? Personally think his 'stock' is quite low at the minute.

I don't see why Rodgers would have an incentive to accept a lower fee really. What can Liverpool offer as a stick or carrot?

I'm sure he'll have a while off and then a mid-tier club will come after him, so he can try to repeat his time at Swansea. After all, it didn't take Moyes long.

Oh, I totally understand that anyone in that position would want all the money they are owed on their contract, see Adebayor for example.

Rodgers will want as much as possible, Liverpool will want to pay him as little as possible.

I am not sure about the mid table clubs, with the greatest respect to Liverpool, he spent a lot of money and only achieved slightly above mid table - any chairman is going to want a manager who can spend less and achieve more, Rodgers is the opposite of that. (Totally irrelevant of 'net' spends, Rodgers spent a lot of money and did not achieve anything) Rodgers is also a bit mental like.

True, but once the dust has settled, if you're the manager of someone like Newcastle or Villa or Swansea, then you've got a choice between successful lower-league managers or failed Premier League managers. And in that instance, they might want someone with experience working with good players and big budgets. Besides, if Rodgers can convince the board that the signings weren't his and he was placed in a very difficult position, who is to say that they won't believe him?

'Big Sam' > Rodgers :p.

I think Rodgers started well, but time has shown he is just not capable of managing an elite club, nor a club chasing that status. He's tactically inept, especially in Europe, and stubborn.

That, and he is a bit mental. The envelope thing, some of his comments. He came across as arrogant; too self confident at times but his selections, tactics and decisions during a game point to the total opposite of that, a man totally out of ideas. Rodgers and Mourinho have a lot in common.

Someone who understands clauses can mean they don't have to pay out the full amount if they want to sack him at a certain point, if he's doing badly.

He was not sacked in this case though? I thought Crystal Palace paid Newcastle for him?

I take the point, I do not expect any chairman worth his salt does not have clauses that are performance related. Pardew on a seven year deal was/is still crazy.

Who in their right mind gives Pardew a seven, SEVEN, year contract? An idiot, that is who.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle received £3.5m when he left.

Just had a quick look up on it and they did indeed put a clause in his contract, think he only ended up with one years pay.

Assuming there are no clauses which limit the amount he's getting, it depends if he wants to work again (in the short/medium term) or not. If he wants to work, and Liverpool don't want to give him all he's due, they could shove him on gardening leave and then it's a case of waiting for him to crack. If he doesn't care about working soon, he can just sit there/go around watching football/go on holiday, etc, and get his money delivered each week until the end of his deal.

This is what happened with Phil Brown was it not? He was placed on 'gardening leave' a few years (seasons) back.

Yep, that's true. Although I don't think it would reflect well on Liverpool if they took that approach.

The clause thing may well be true, if there's something about being in Xth position in the league by the beginning of October or whatever. It would certainly have been a sensible inclusion.

Yes, but you were saying it was stupid to give him such a deal. I was pointing out that it wasn't necessarily stupid, and you can only say it was if you know the specifics of what his contract said.

I do think giving Pardew a seven year contract anywhere is mental, yes.

Totally irrelevant of clauses to get out, Pardew is rubbish. Although, seeing him try and behave now because he clearly thinks (or has been advised) he is in the running for the England job is amusing.

I dont think Pardew is remotely rubbish just look at how Newcastle are in free fall since he left, palace are also playing some great stuff. Massively underrated.
