Whoch iirc it did because they felt the protection was not enough and the only way to try and increase it was to vote no and wait for a new deal to be wheeled our for them to vote on

Or because they didn't want to upset the chinese government who they are trying to forge closer financial links with, not least make london a hub of yuan trading and eventually chinese stocks.

Tories looking to boost the city of london or protect port talbot steelworks - hmmm, you know I couldn't imagine which was more likely.

But the issue of us leaving should be settled for all: we had a vote and a decision was made. Another referendum on the same issue would be hugely damaging to the future of our democracy.

The Leave campaign couldn't put forward a plan because they were not the government and had no reason to believe they would be, but I question what sort of plan we actually need anyway?

Boris Johnson and Michael Gove aren't in government? Huh. Someone should tell them

This is a major world economy who has had a protracted and serious debate and held a referendum a year later, to which a democratic result has been given. It's not some damned little kid making excuses for a mistake in his homework or exam paper. Is that how you believe your government should be doing our will? I think you should consider emigrating to an EU state if that's how you feel, it isn't going to happen, the UK isn't some banana state.

Indeed but the Referendum is not legally binding. Only Parliament can decide.

Ok let me ask you another question: when do you think we last had a strong government?

I honestly thought the current one (pre Friday) was solid enough, which is why Cameron's resignation was a blow I think. I thought he'd accept that the majority had spoken and act accordingly.

You're understandibly mad that a crime has been committed against you, but that's just what it is, a crime. There are laws in place to protect you and punish people who behave that way. We haven't allowed those crimes as a country in the same way we don't allow people to commit any other crimes. Just because people have committed crimes in the name of one side it isn't going to stop a Democratic process from being seen through.

stop patronising me. You really don't understand what this feels like unless you have been there and experienced it. It's not pleasant and regardless of whether it is reported to the police or not brings a massive feeling of insecurity and makes people feel actually quite scared. So unless the police are going to start handing out escorts to any "foreign looking types" this is going to get a lot worse. And you know what the worst part of this is, Stevenage town centre was packed on Sunday and not one single person said anything to those people the doled out the abuse to me. So how I am supposed to not think that people are turning a blind eye to this ?

Not really. Look at that table fo 12 people out celebrating the Leave victory and demanded that werent served by an Italian waiter.

Or the Lithuania scientist working here talking on her mobile to her mother and when she came off the phone, got told to go home and pack her bags cause she's leaving.
I don't understand this, wasn't the issue of immigration to do with the eastern Europeans? Do people really hate non brits so much that they now want them to go home, or are they misguided with the incorrect assumption that all non nationals will now be deported and are simply telling them (harshly) to get on with it already?

I'd personally throw those who are doing this out of the country, the rest would be more than welcome to stay.

I just don't see the point of citing anecdotes about casual racism, there was racism before the referendum as well, dozens of videos. These people need punishing under law, not used to make a cheap political point.

Racists and xenophobes have never been known for their fine grasp of nuanced concepts.

you still don't get it, there are plenty oif us reporting that his is now onlyhappening since the vote. I have been going to Stevenage town centre for decades and haven't been racially abused for over 25 years, so why is it now happening again. Coincidence is it.............. thats the blind eye kicking in again.

Yes, we need more leaders that are happy breakup the union and lie to their voters.

Spain have said previously they will veto a newly independent nation from Europe joining the EU.

If Scotland leave they will be on they're own, which is precisely what she wants, the EU is just an excuse.

You forget one tiny detail. She is tasked with looking after the interests of Scotland not the union. The two are not the same.

I think it's fair to say the referendum has emboldened the far right and, in their eyes at least, legitimised their views.

There are at least two anecdotes from people on these very forums of brazen racism not experienced in decades.

It makes me sad.

The point is that this is not mere 'casual racism', it's violent in-your-face racism and the perpetrators are citing the Brexit as justification.

This has been explained several times already.

no that's just project fear, remain lost, we should just deal with it, there is no racism happening in connection with the brexit vote, how dare you say that..................... we are just whining and we should take our racist abuse as it will only make us stronger right ?
