BRINK

Early days but I remember a developer commentary / video about the single player side of the game, and it looked really good. Just glad I haven't picked it up as yet. One to keep an eye on, see plenty of media and maybe when the price is much reduced, though it is possible after playing I might find it a better game than I first expected, so you never know.

The single player is just multiplayer against bots, and the AI is bad

A lot of people are getting better performance with the ATI 11.2 driver, just tried it and went from 25-40s to 55-90 depending where I am, still have to turn off aa/hbao and shadows on medium but much more playable.

I was getting fps in the 20's with the 11.2's, so i switch to the 11.3's and my fps have tripled, shame the servers are so laggy.

anyone on now want to complete 'Be more objective' 1-3 ? ... stupid AI makes this a bit hard  , don't forget to join the steam group OcUK Brink ..

As promised.. maybe some useful cfg settings:

(I don't actually have the game yet so do some research on these settings first)

Code:
seta in_toggleCrouchKeyboard "0"
seta in_toggleZoomKeyboard "1"

seta pm_crouchbob "0" //all of the following help disable the rolling and bobbing motions as you move
seta pm_bobroll "0"
seta pm_bobpitch "0"
seta pm_bobup "0"
seta pm_runroll "0"
seta pm_runpitch "0"
seta pm_runbob "0"
seta pm_walkbob "0"
seta pm_skipbob "1"

seta m_strafeSmooth "4"
seta m_smooth "1"
seta m_rawInput "1"
seta cl_mouseaccel "0"

seta g_fov "110" //Important ;)

seta com_unlockFPS "1"
seta com_unlock_timingMethod "0"
seta com_unlock_maxFPS "250"
seta g_skipPostProcess "1"
seta r_useThreadedRenderer "2"

seta image_picMipEnable "1"
seta image_specularPicMip "-2" //-2 to 2 Shiny stuff
seta image_diffusePicMip "-2" //-2 to 2 Basically it controls the size of the textures used for diffuse maps (colour of surfaces).
seta image_bumpPicMip "-2" //-2 to 2 Description: Basically it controls the size of the textures used for normal maps (the direction light is reflected, adds depth to surfaces).
seta image_anisotropy "0" //Range: 0 to 16 (maybe higher on some graphics cards)
seta r_multiSamples "0"
seta r_shaderSkipSpecCubeMaps "1" //Range: 0 to 1 Description: If set to 0 then reflections of the environment are shown on some surfaces (like shiny metal).
seta r_detailTexture "0" //Range: 0 to 1 Description: Enables 'detail texturing' - where another texture is blended on top of the base texture at close range to add detail (hence the name).
seta r_shaderQuality "4" //Range: 0 to 4 (AFAIK) Description: Controls the quality of shaders, 0 is the highest. You'll have to experiment with this setting to see which one gives the best combination of performance and prettyness for you.

seta r_renderProgramLodDistance "0" //200 before
seta r_stuffFadeStart "0"
seta r_stuffFadeEnd "0"
seta r_visDistMult "1.2"

set r_shadows "1"
set g_showPlayerShadow "1"
seta bse_enabled "0"

seta net_clientPunkbusterEnabled "1"
seta net_clientDownload "1"
seta com_usefastvidrestart "1"
seta r_skipstuff "1"
seta g_showPlayerShadow "0"

seta net_clientPrediction "2" //default 20
seta net_clientMaxPrediction "250" //default 1000
seta net_clientMaxRate "18000"//

com_allowConsole "1"

lol one of the core ideals about the game was that team play would work online with random people effectively......

It actually does.

80% of the time my team mates are buffing me, reviving, healing etc.

Obviously there's some retards who never hand out ammo, which is probably the biggest pain in the ass with randoms atm, easier to just go back to your command post.

When I try to join a server i get kicked to desktop with the console showing with an error which is'can not decompress data'

I've yet to see any signs of team play really, I'm the only one buffing, very few people actually change class from the default, those who do dont revive you e.t.c.

Absolute classic from earlier, my team were meant to be destroying the robot, but were actually trying to escort it because none had bothered to check the objective, called me a retard and a noob when I pointed this out to them.

To be fair, the objective descriptions are pretty ridiculous. They don't make sense for your current objective half the time, like "Guard this", implying you need to stop enemies getting to it, instead of "Hack this", or "Destroy this". It's normally pretty easy to work out after you play the maps a few times though.
